If you consider "Quantity" to be a spelling mistake of "Quantitative", there really is no hope for you.

So you are foregoing the opportunity to claim ER, because your Ltd would be classified an investment company. Nothing wrong with that of course but I believe many/most contractors have a longer term view of building up the warchest and then retiring through a claim on ER during liquidation.

Personally I must admit feeling frustrated and agitated at having a large balance sat in my Ltd account and not having it work for me - and feeling the anxiety that this is at risk of disappearing as a result of a bank collapse.

You only risk it when investment is significant (20%+ of your income). Before I'll reach it, i'll move assets to SPV that is owned by my LTD. Besides why would I ever want to draw this? It will be making me money on retirement from dividends / rentals. And if need be, I have full control over the capital for entire period. And don't need to pay any taxes except for low CT - last year equivalent of 12% after expenses.

That IS my long term plan

Edit : what I would do in your case is to lend this money to a child SPV which is owned by your LTD. Then on SPV you can invest as much as you want and at some point simply repay the loan and claim ER. Also consult your accountant before doing this.

Yeh, I mean it only took just 7 pages of postings to persuade diseasex getting an accountant was a good idea.

I guess this must come under the heading of one of his many "interesting" posts
