    HMRC and winning Pecentages

Somewhere along the line HMRC know they will take a hit. They must of factored that in. And if they have not covered every base they don't want that all over the media. I think 400 people, out of the thousands they are after, will not be something they want to publicise that much. It's when the big rich ones get away with it they want to embarrass them in the media. I think be prepared for it, but don't keep going on about it here until we get access to the new forum and know who's who. That's what I think anyway.

Do you remember ever receiving letters in 2008/9/10 which gave you 30 days to pay up or appeal? These would have been closure notices, which you would have passed on to Montp to appeal on your behalf. They typically look like this:

Thanks for trying to sort it DR and esp for the later links for online enrolment. Apparently I'll be waiting a few days for an activation code.

In the meantime I've only a record of "appeal an postponement" and "new, amended assessments" for 2003/4 and 2004/5 but no deadlines to pay. I fear I'm splitting hairs (although I've had no formal statement of amount owed since 2010) and may be awaiting a shock once I get my online enrolment.

I fear I'll have to call them - a situation I'm not calm enough to handle lol.

That'll be athe war chest you were saying you havent contributed to yet?

Im sorry but while I understand some people's concerns, some people want to start diluting the pointy end of the fight.

We're never going to get anywhere convincing joe public we arent tax evaders never mind tax avoiders. They see them as one and the same. IMHO, spending money trying to get some campaign off the ground that we're not evaders, we're avoiders wont work. hell, there's even contractors on these boards who state we're evaders.

As someone once said 'That battle's over. We lost. Move on to the next battle.'

Nope, keep the fight focused, focus on its strong points and let's not dilute our battle.

          Dont go there.

I think it is being too naïve to leave Hector a clear field to have their own slant on proceedings, without having our own one-pager prepared.
As I understand it, it wouldn't break the bank to get a professionally compiled press release to hand, SHOULD WE NEED TO USE IT.
And it's impact would be the same as a fly hitting a train head on. The train wouldnt notice the impact and the fly would be of zero consequence.

I wonder what's taking the last third of the group so long to sign up...
Still, an awesome response! Many thanks to all at NTRT for organising this. Let's hope we come safely and securely out the other end!

If individuals have a case to answer, let's have them answer it, in court, under oath, after sweating on it for a few years.

Of course, my personal view is I may listen to some offers they may wish to make if they wanted to draw a line under all this right now...

Understand others may feel very differently.
I agree, they should be held to account and I'd be happy to fund any such legal action. However I understand others may feel differently….

i think you have to be careful - to us to have raised that much is awesome .... others might see it that we have cash to splash into a fund cos we didnt pay our taxs and are all stinking rich cos of it ..... it may be a pandoras box to open as once you print one side you can bet your bottom dollar someone will want to salg it off and print an alternate view

I'm with Morlock on this. My sole motivation for joining TAA is to have my day in court and protect as much of my capital as I can. The overall NTRT pot is the appropriate place to look for PR funding or anything else not directly related to TAA.

                      Specifically -
                      * I would not support any use of TAA funds for a PR campaign, beyond an entirely bland statement along the lines of 'we have always paid all taxes as required by the law. It would be inappropriate to comment any further on an ongoing case". Engaging with the press in any case is unlikely to further our cause.
                      * I have zero interest in pursuing any organisation or individual. I have always found it entirely laughable to suggest that we are the victims of some kind of a vendetta, or that this is in some way personal, or indeed that any person or group has behaved in a way that is notably corrupt or duplicitous. By all means form a separate group to do this if you feel the need for revenge but don't use my money to do it, or redirect anybody's attention away from the core issue here. Most importantly, don't do anything that jeopardises our case at the FTT.
