    Being TUPEd to NumberMill

    Hey all
    Been a minute
Just got an email from my current Umbrella to say they are going to stop umbrella services and have been purchased by NumberMill.

I have not heard of them before, and doing a search on this site doesnt seem to be anything recent (I think last post was 2021).

Is anyone with NumberMill, if so thoughts?

I have asked the agency to see if they would onboard a new Umbrella (fingers cross they say yes to Clarity). If not, and I dont want to go to NumberMill my other 2 options are Giant or Parasol.

    Wierd...
Do your due dilligence, ask NumberMill for a KID (Key Information Document) that outlines exactly how the deductions are made.
As far as umbrella companies go, if they are FSCA accredited and one of the big five or so they are much the same.
One of the forum posters has a well-regarded umbrella company, Clairity (from memory..)

One thing I would note is that if you are going to be contributing to your own pension plan by salary sacrifice, check how much they will charge you to do this. Sometimes they insist on charging you for the "Premium" plan to do this.

I've used PayStream and Giant, all pretty samey.

Unfortuantely if those are the only options you've got then they are clearly only picking brollies that give kickbacks which Clarity doesn't so not looking great.

Give Lucy a ring at Clairty and see what traction she's made with the agent so far. Maybe if you ask and she's trying to kick the back door in you might get a result.

I thought that there was previously some ambiguity as to whether TUPE applied to Umbrella workers and that this was still in legal limbo land.

Has it now been established definitively that Umbrella workers are afforded protection under TUPE?

And if TUPE does apply, then presumably the contract terms need to remain unchanged and the new employer could not, for example, charge additional fees for pension contribution processing.

I thought workplace pensions were exempt when TUPE'ing? Personal pension arrangements should stay the same but if the new brolly uses a different workplace pension provider it all starts again including charges for using that provider?

Numbermill have been around for a long time, and TUPE is standard if a brollies book has been sold, so no immediate concerns, I guess give them a call and make sure you are ok with it, but if we can help obviously just let me know.
