Riot now broken out at client site with umbrella contractors

They don't get paid until agent pays the umbrella

So after today no more expenses for UM contractors we all know that, what the riot is about, If you had any expenses prior to today - you cannot claim, (UM won't process) so that's everyone's March run + February people that were late submitting or long payment terms are crying. Guys with £5k in flights and accommodation for Feb and March are having a melt down

Tell them to look on the bright side, they can claim them back via self assessment in a few months time. That should help

You would have thought it would have been valid as long as the debt was realised before the cut off i.e. when it was paid for. There would be then be a period of grace allowing people to claim everything before the cut off... Surely that's just common sense... Oh yes, right.. HMRC. Doh...

Thought this only covered NON billable expenses ie tax deductible expenses, all client billed expenses can still be paid thought a umbrella right ?

if some one did have 5k in NON billable expenses for Feb and March day rate would have to be of a high level that would made going LTD a better option.

Limited yes, but if their head is in the sand and they're a permacontractor who is operating as a disguised employee, they probably won't be aware of sites like this that have discussed such things.

Right from the off Ive said that there are Umbrella contractors out their in the real world that have no idea of the changes. We had a new contractor who started on Monday who had sussed it out (he is umbrella) but the Umbrella were trying to sign him up on all the benefits. As he is local to the site he is not bothered. I finish on Friday having served my 2 weeks notice. There are going to be a hell of a lot of upset contractors over the next few weeks when the come to submitt their ex`s they have been saving up to find the horse has bolted and stable door closed.
