Ooo that's not cheap, still it's what I've been waiting/left my last MacBook on a train for..The proud owner of 125 Xeno Geek Points -
if you can live with 512mb its only £2648.99
personally the bottom of the range one will be fine. Just need to ensure my open university details are updated.merely at clientco for the entertainmentComment

MS don't make £500+ on every PC sold, Apple do on every Mac. You save on the OS but pay through the nose for the hardware.Originally posted by NickFitz View PostMountain Lion: $19.99
How much is Windows 7 again?
EDIT: and that's a one-time payment to upgrade as many Macs as you have (assuming they can run it and are on at least Snow Leopard).Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

or you pay for quality and compared to the rather expensive dell laptop I'm currently using Apple is worth the extra money. Especially as its only £160.Originally posted by d000hg View PostMS don't make £500+ on every PC sold, Apple do on every Mac. What's that got to do with what I said? It's a fact Apple make a decent profit on every machine (including iPads and iPhones) they sell, which means they can give the OS away for free if they want since Apple is a hardware company, not a software company.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

Which doesn't address the fact that it's $19.99 for all the Macs you already have as an upgrade. If I have, say, three PCs running Windows 7, how much will I be charged to upgrade all of them to Windows 8? I can guarantee it won't be cheap, and I'll have to pay again for each one separately if I'm to stay on the right side of Microsoft's licensing. Your argument only applies to buying a new machine, when the OS cost is amortised in the cost of the hardware, which isn't relevant to the price I posted about.Originally posted by d000hg View PostWhat's that got to do with what I said? It applies equally well to older machines, because you have already paid the $500 apple premium for those and they can afford to give you the upgrades for next to nothing as well. Even with you paying through the nose for a couple of windows updates during the life of a machine MS will make less per PC than apple do. It's a different business model.Originally posted by NickFitz View PostWhich doesn't address the fact that it's $19.99 for all the Macs you already have as an upgrade. Plus, if you are like every other mac owner I know, you will need to buy 3 copies of windows to run in parallels / fusion anyway. While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'Comment

Why would you buy the bottom of the range when spending a few hundred more would give you the vat back effectively giving you the better machine for the same costs?Originally posted by eek View Post£1799 for the bottom of the range retina display. Just need to wait for the shop to come back online.
The SSDs skew the issue of costs over the last model quite a bit. I had the 2.3ghz 8 core MBP I need the 750gb of space but I dont really need the SSD speed. makeing the jump from my version to the next would be a whopping 3k
Not even I am going to do that!!! (oh hang on I get £600 back ! yay its back to the old price...

True, you don't know me, I don't use Windows on mine.Originally posted by doodab View PostIt applies equally well to older machines, because you have already paid the $500 apple premium for those and they can afford to give you the upgrades for next to nothing as well.
