instead of retiring my old blackbook i've maxed out the memory & hard drive and am using it as another backup option plus it's now connected to the tv alongside the other stuff (time machine, wii, dvd etc.) and i can access it via remote keyboard & pad. -
Seconded. And backing up / restoring those VMs.Originally posted by DaveB View PostMultiple VM's running multiple DB instances with some nice fat sql queries.
This is what brought Ubuntu to its knees on my PC. Dave's suggestion gives a far better reflection of real life than any benchmark.Behold the warranty -- the bold print giveth and the fine print taketh away.Comment

Old Black macbook !!!
Just sold mine on Ebay C2D 2Ghz with max 2GB ram and 120GB hdd - sold it for £370 - couldn't believe it how much it had gone for.Originally posted by DS23 View Postinstead of retiring my old blackbook i've maxed out the memory & hard drive and am using it as another backup option plus it's now connected to the tv alongside the other stuff (time machine, wii, dvd etc.) and i can access it via remote keyboard & pad.
Helped offset the new Mac Mini I then picked up to replace the PC I've had to be running for my wife.
I've now got the family fully converted to mac's - and don't have to be doing desktop support when I get home from a hard day @ the coal face !!

I bought mine today. 13" Screen with 8GB of memory. It's the low end model though. But aim to upgrade the hard drive myself to 500GB when more funds come my way.Originally posted by Pondlife View PostScheduled Delivery:

STOP PRESS
I have a spanking new MacBook Air with an SSD as part of new-client's IT kit. It is significantly faster than this beast - and, I warrant, even with the 16GB possible upgrade. You really need to see it to believe it. PSCS5 starts up (with full libraries, brushes) <3 sec. Startup/shutdown blisteringly fast. I'm definitely upgrading to the best SSD possible. What a difference.Comment

I saw the 1st-gen Air when they came out and was pretty impressed but then assumed they had incrementally improved and never looked again. Happened to see the newest ones in an Apple Store, my gosh they are tiny and light now.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

If I was to get a MBP Retail and with the savings over Apple RRP buy a SSD and fit it myself would it void the warranty?!Originally posted by Stevie Wonder BoyI can't see any way to do it can you please advise?

No, replacing memory or disk yourself does not void the Applecare warranty. Read that recently in Mac Format mag FAQ's.Originally posted by SimonMac View PostIf I was to get a MBP Retail and with the savings over Apple RRP buy a SSD and fit it myself would it void the warranty?!Last edited by Durbs; 5 April 2011, 11:06.Comment
