Apple did as much for DRM as Harold shipman did for patient care. Did you know that when they released iTunes plus that removed drm you could pay to upgrade your existing songs to DRM free. lol
I think Apple is rather like marmite, you either love it or hate it. I personally will never give them any money as I do not like their business practises.
They are a company where marketing is better than function. I say this as they would have been out of business by now with their "so much better and easier to use computers" if they had not invented coloured cases.
Lets think about how you cannot replace a battery on an iPhone. And how one clients iphone just died, would not turn on, would not be reset. The only way to bring it back to life was a software update in itunes. Fortunately he was in the office, what if he had been abroad or broke down on the hard shoulder? Lets think about jail broken phones becoming bricks.Comment

(This isn't meant to be argumentative or pedantic (if it comes across that way) - I'm genuinely interested in how a touch screen renders the events)Comment

Is there some kind of time logic (e.g. if the finger is there for a second and let go, it's not a click; otherwise it is)

My main use is as an organiser, GPS, MP3, and sometimes tinter-web, email and Camera, and maybe make the odd call. My Touch Cruise does all this already but considering upgrading.
I was also wondering if I could use my phone as a modem and dump my 3G dongle data contract for my laptop.
One issue is GPS, I have Tomtom on WM at the moment, and I'm not sure whether I can get a comparable quality on Android or iPhone.
Also anything that requires me having to use iTunes puts me off - I installed it on my PC and caused me no end of woes, as in every app, even Excel was crashing until I uninstalled it.
It'll be on Vodafone - I have PAYG SIMs for all 4 networks to test coverage and found them to be best for client sites I visit.
so what would you go for and why ?
I'm split between iphone and HD2, although being not that up on phones would be grateful of any further suggestions on choices.
Also, I think it was FAQQER that mentioned orange do a top up to use your phone as a modem to access tinternet through it for £5 a month. Do any other networks or is there an alternative as this may be useful if a some poiint travelling can't acces a broadband connection.Comment

A friend got an iPhone just befire me and had problems syncing his contacts with his PC, and copying his music over from iTunes. and I had already had problems with iTunes on my desktop.
I pluggged my HD2 in and it synced with Outlook so I have all my contacts, I can copy music back and forth no problem from my PC using windows explorer.
I'm not sure that TomTom works on the HD2 yet, I've read about people having issues and last week someone got an email saying that a new version that would work would be released this week. So I tried the CoPilot trial and that seems to work ok, so paid the £26.99 for the license. If later I crave TomTom again, I haven't paid too much money for CoPilot, so it would be no great loss.
My HD2 did have a problem sending SMSs, which is a software bug, a patch can be downloaded from HTCs website. I've installed that it it works fine.
I think there are a few patches / bugs (e.g. one for the camera, one for the storage card) as it is a very new phone. I've previously only ever bought the last years technology, so I don't get the bugs.
Email works well. I was unsure at first, using POP, as there was no option to not remove from the server, but it seemsthat this is the default as its all still on there.
The interface is a slot slicker (more iphone-esque, I guess) than the Touch Cruise.
It has some nice gimmicks like the weather on the home page.
Overall I am impressed with it.
There are some good deals on the iPhone out there, and you can pay less for a contract with an iPhone (which is strange as it is a more expensive phone) if you really want it, but I've always been happy with HTCs and Windows - and each one just gets better.
This is just my opinion. I have no relation to Apple, HTC or Microsoft, apart from my business being a member of the Microsoft partner network (for the action pack).Comment

Having just compared the specs of the two on the htc site the only major difference I can find is physical size (admittadly the HD2 feels a bit wide for a phone) and the operating system, the HD2 being windows 6.5 and the desire being Android.
Are more apps available for one rather than the other, is navigation easier, having not upgraded my phone for around, I think, 3 years, then I am a bit out of touch. My old phone is a nokia N85 by the way.
In Harry Hill style, which is better? Is that too big a can of worms?
(Or am I missing something else which would make the desire outperform the HD2?)Comment

Did you find a reasonably priced way for it to replace your 3g dongle as a modem?Comment
