I use pen and paper to write down all my data, just in case. Typing it all in again would be a bitch.

When I recently upgraded my desktop from the Windows 7 eval to a full install, I just wiped the C partition and reinstalled, leaving all the important data safe on D. It seems cleaner an simpler that way and I knew there'd be no left overs from the previous OS install.

And surely no professional actually uses "My Documents".
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

you can do a quicker scan disk and defrag if you partition your hard disk
also you can install different operating systems like linux and boot up on
that partition, lastly you can do a quick format on partiions if you need to delete large amounts of data.

          I do!

But then My Documents on my laptop has been repointed to the F drive and I've configured the libraries so that I don't have to go through My Documents to get to my work stuff

          HDD Partioned 3 ways

          C: = System - backed up once a month
E: = SQL Server (and any other very large files) - never automatically backed up (it's not critical data)
          F: = Documents - backed up once a week

I used to - it pointed to G:\Documents.

Now I use /home/TF/Documents instead - is that wrong?

Why not? The only problem with it I know is when set up on a domain to copy your My Docs when you log in on any PC, and have 1Gb of MP3s in you My Music folder, and it copies it all before you can login...

No, it is. Fukin awful. Where I work we have the lot, Windows, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, Linux, the vast majority of incidents are Windows, reboot, reboot, reboot....

Least (and most boxes) is Solaris, now I have say I am a Solaris bod, but I was prepared to receive Linux as the NKOTB, and HP-UX as the CAD choice, AIX as the banking choice, but it's the Sun boxes that say up, and I'm not totally blinkered, VMS is the OS of choice for me ...

                  But Windows, Christ....

No seriously, I very rarely restart windows, even my laptop is just put on hibernate when I finish, can't remember the last time I restarted. This has been the case for a number of years now.
The only people I see who have problems with windows are the people who don't have a clue what they're doing and f**k around with the system.
You don't tend to get those same people f**king around in Linux or Solaris
