    Website Building

Whats the easist software to use - I've done one using an on-line building site [ moonfruit ], but want to do a new one, also my son [ aged 10 ] also want to create his own.

I've got the domain names & hosting - I just need to build and then upload [ ftp? ]

What would be tha easist to use for a non-techy ? Dreamweaver ??

    Ta.

Are you looking to buy or use a freebie?

    Here's a list of free ones. http://www.thefreecountry.com/webmas...leditors.shtml

I use Frontpage myself...it (just) gets the job done.

I was looking for something that had lots of templates etc, my son wants to get into this so I was hoping to get something he could use as well...

Frontpage comes with a few basic ones...but you can always buy or find free ones on the internet. That applies to Dreamweaver as well.

Actually, it doesn't: it gives the impression of getting the job done, but it does it so badly that eventually you'll suffer for it.

Yep, Frontpage, whilst fitting the bill for being simple to learn and use for yourself and your son generates some awful code and hides a lot of the things you should be learning about from you.

Dreamweaver is the best by far web-wise and is an industry standard app but has a steep learning curve and is expensive (not for schoolies though, they get it cheap!). It has a huge community though for help so may be worth trying the free trial version to see what you think.

A cheaper and simpler alternative is something like http://www.coffeecup.com/html-editor/

I have also used Microsoft's Expression Web app that comes in the Action Pack and that's not too bad either.

For a non-techy, WordPress is easy to install, has one-click upgrades etc and plenty of templates to go at.

If that's not your cup of tea, tell us why and some more suggestions will no doubt be forthcoming.

Net Objects Fusion - loads of templates, easy WYSIWYG interface.

Not perfect by any means (see my previous post where I complain about its love of frames) but on the other hand unless you're going to get REALLY serious about site building, will do the job nicely. I've seen some pretty impressive sites built using this tool, and have done a few (maybe not so impressive) myself.

P.S. It's cheaper if you can buy in US dollars

I used to use Namo Webeditor (well originally Frontpage but thats not so nice as has been pointed out) and have been trying out Dreamweaver as these all have templates. Now I use one of the above for the template and the rest is done using Kompozer. You can download a 60 day trial of Web Expressions (formerly Frontpage) for Microsoft as well

Expression Web - and it has absolutely nothing even remotely to do with Frontpage, they couldn't be more different!!
