probably built it hmself, we are after all working in IT. This is not the knitting forum you know.

Quad core CPU = £150ish and up
        RAM = cheap now
        Hard drives = cheap * 3
        19" monitor = very cheap * 3
7.1 Speakers = not very expensive

£1500 is not hard to achieve at all.

          Here.

Just opened it up to see what's inside. The hard drive bays are pretty much all full - 3x 500GB SATA drives, RAID stripe so it shows up as 1x1500GB plus two DVD drives, floppy(!) and I added a memory card reader as well.

BUT - it's come down in price since I ordered it on Sunday

I do software, not hardware - haven't got time to put it together, so my people do that for me!

              I like doing it.

DIY is not that much cheaper though.

That's without OS and graphics card. Not sure what graphics this thing has, but an ATI X1950 Pro Dual 1GB will set you back £200.

You, sir, are a geek's geek.

As much as I enjoy technology, I don't think I could be arsed with building my own PC.

If you get a shuttle case, everything is prewired for you. You just drop in the CPU, click in the RAM, graphics card, and drives and you're done - probably take less than an hour.

I've built a load in my time. I used to build them for other people who don't seem impressed if you have not used the complete number of screws etc to hold it together. I don't do it know as it's a pain in the @rse. They have a PC which works fine for 18 months with all manner of siht loaded on it form various sources and becuase the original installation of XP has stopped working it is somehow the fault of the PC I built.

Now I just build my own. I tend to have a fairly good spec desktop and keep it upgraded. The bits I take out when upgrading go into the the kids PC's.

At the moment mine is a core 2 6400 CPU, 3Gb Ram, 1TB of disk space and a 512mb nVidia 7950 graphics card. I have it dual booted with XP and vista, but hardly use the vista side. It does pretty much everything I throw at it. In the middle of next year I'll probably look at replacing the bits inside as this is now about 8 months old.

                    I preferred version 1!

No idea, but it's got two graphics cards in there.
