Not cheap for 8 cores & 16GB - £10k including twin 30" panels, but should rip through that 3d rendering.

They have a PC which works fine for 18 months with all manner of siht loaded on it form various sources and becuase the original installation of XP has stopped working it is somehow the fault of the PC I built.
Thanks Tony, you've just reminded me why I don't do PCs any more. This is an unexpected bonus of having a Mac - you can simply profess ignorance

Mine's a laptop left over from a permie job. My GF uses a laptop left over from the permie job I had before that. My neighbour uses a laptop left over from the permie job I had before that one.

If it's any consolation to the age of your computer I'm still using a pc I bought in 2001 as the entertainment PC in my lounge (although I did put all the components into a new SFF case a couple of years ago) and it's gotten us through 5 years without owning a TV so it gets a fair bit of use. 6+ years and still going although it is about to be replaced with an AppleTV.

It really depends on what you want to do with it.

I could spec out the mother of all pc's but if you only want it to run Office and t'internet then it would be a waste, if however you want to play the newest PC games coming out then it would be ideal.

With apologies to Only Fools and Horses.

Do you know I've had the same PC for over 15 years now?

                  Really?

Yep, same PC. It's had 5 new motherboards, 8 CPU's, 10 lots of RAM changes and 7 video cards, but it's the same PC I've always had.

Why do PC's still have floppy disk drives?

                    Does anyone still use them?

It depends on the board, sometimes if you need to upgrade the bios you may have to use a floppy

I also know some companies are still using NT4 so no possibility of using a usb device either.
