Probably 4 being passed off as 5. One of the "joys" of buying off eBay.

somewhat simpler than that I suspect.... Your 5G SIM card will work and that's all there is to it.

Didn't realise you needed to change SIM card for 5G. You learn something every day.

This one is specifically advertised as 5G but not sure I'd trust that. Says 300Mbps.

If you buy an unlocked 5G router, one thing you could do is get a few (free) PAYG sim cards and see which gives the best 5g signal.

I can personally recommend giffgaff but, for the same money, you get more data with smarty (3 network).
I haven't been able to actually test if 3 works for 5g where I live, just going by the coverage map. I'm also a giffgaff fan having contracted for them for a year. Great company.

Think there's a 30 day trial period with home BB, if it don't work then send it back. Cancellation seems to be a bit of a PITA though. Happy with mine though

I'd be concerned that I won't be able to send it back if it only works with 4g since that's what the coverage map says. In their minds, that's "working"

If I was in your shoes, I'd just buy a 5G router and start off with a giffgaff SIM. From what's been posted above, you should be able to pick up a pucker 5G router for under £100. Just tread carefully if buying off eBay. There are adverts claiming routers are 5G when they probably aren't.

I agree, just need to find a decent unlocked router. Anyone know a specific link for one that actually works?
