Windows 10 - Did you upgrade?

As a follow on to last year's "will you upgrade?" thread

    Did you upgrade?

Any comments for anyone thinking about upgrading?

I upgraded two of my Windows machines with no problem.

The other two I'll leave on XP because that just works

I did 2 weeks ago, I had 8.1 running splendid. Since I have Windows 10 I am experiencing lots of small nuissances. Often when I click an link from Thunderbird Chrome becomes non responsive. Best if I unplug and re plug wired mouse and power supply, sometimes mouse and pad are not recognized again. Need to plug on off power and be patient. Lenovo t440s. Sure all solvible or can be overcome with updates but...crap

Dos games on dosbox now all seem to fail if fullscreen, and have to run in windowed mode

Homeplug seems to die randomly, rebooting fixes it, same for networked connections

        Otherwise ok

Yep. No real issues on HP Envy, apart from touchpad settings resetting every time I logged off / rebooted. Found a registry fix which has done the trick - although that reset after one set of updates.

I upgraded my main pc and mostly ok, some issues with waking out of sleep mode. Still have some issues with my second monitor but probably graphics card related.

Upgraded Lenovo Helix and ended up being a disaster. Loads of minor issues but also it crawled to such a slow speed, unusable. Formated it and reinstalled it again from scratch and all fine. I'm blaming the Lenovo drivers, past experience of their software is bad.

Have win 10 installed on Surface book works fine though battery life is poor.

All working on 10, no problems. That's 3 laptops, a tablet and a desktop.

The only issues I've had is dumb companies that haven't figured out that most consumers are going to be on windows 10.

                  1. First Direct - wanted identify verification and offered it via video chat, using Webex, which doesn't (or didn't) work with 10. Fortunately, I had a client PC that was on 7.

                  2. Another client who switched their "remote working from any PC" technology - to something that doesn't work with 10, only with 7 and XP. When challenge the idiot networking manager said "well, clientco policy is 7", to which an "you utter moron, you're promoting this technology around the client, that it allows remote workers to get into important systems from any computer" from the CIO, failed to rectify.

So the suggestion that since M$ are no longer supporting XP that they'll all soon be virus-ridden zombies subverted for nefarious purposes is exaggerated, in your view?

I bought a s/h Dell M3800 laptop a few months ago that came with a W7 recovery partition and let it upgrade to W10. I had a load of problems with sleep/hibernate not working, but eventually worked out that disabling the second NVidia graphics card (never quite understood how that works) solved it. Whether this was anything to do with W10 I don't know; W7 might have had the same problem but I didn't use it enough to find out.

It has a bit of an identity crisis at times. I wish Control Panel would just come up with the old style Control Panel rather than giving you the new version with limited settings and then going back to the old one when you dig deeper.

I had a bit of an issue on some client's software that used an old DirectX API specifically with HD4000 graphics cards on W10. Again probably a driver issue, but neither Microsoft or Intel updates fixed it, and obviously there's lots of laptops out there using HD4000 graphics. It's old software but it's meant to be backwards compatible.

One reason I wanted to upgrade is that I have a 4K laptop monitor and a 1080p external monitor and W10 is meant to support different DPIs on different monitors. It does, but almost nothing works properly, including MS apps like Visual Studio. I end up having to faff around changing display settings, starting the app, then changing display settings back. Get it wrong and everything is blurry.

I like the two tier start bar and the ribbon interface to explorer is okay, but why do I have check boxes in my list of files? Also they've continued the trend in making it harder to find your C drive in Explorer. No I don't want to use My Documents; I'm a professional.

But it's okay. It just feels a little unfinished and the spectre of Windows 8 is still lurking under the surface.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.
