I want to get a vinyl turntable and hook it upto my SONOS system, reading up etc people say make sure I get a turntable with a preamp, would this become irreverent if I got the SONOS Connect:AMP rather than the base Connect?

Any audiophiles?

IIRC all those years ago when you bought one of those "separates" stereo systems you couldn't just plug the turntable into any one of the inputs unless it had it's own pre-amp. Or your separates amp had to have a special set of inputs for the turntable.
Is this the same problem?
Edit: Isn't the difference between Connect:AMP and Connect (std) that you can plug speakers direct in to the former but the latter has to go through another device (stereo/TV). Therefore if they treat the inputs the same via the std red/white RCA cables then your turntable needs to be able to handle it. So it may require a preamp.Last edited by Pondlife; 4 March 2015, 11:09. -
From what I have read the difference between the Connect and Connect:AMP is plugging in Speakers that need its own power source, nothing about inputs to connects and preamps etc.Originally posted by Pondlife View PostIIRC all those years ago when you bought one of those "separates" stereo systems you couldn't just plug the turntable into any one of the inputs unless it had it's own pre-amp. You either need a turntable with a preamp built in or you need to by a turntable and a separate preamp. This is regardless of which Sonos option you go for.Originally posted by SimonMac View PostFrom what I have read the difference between the Connect and Connect:AMP is plugging in Speakers that need its own power source, nothing about inputs to connects and preamps etc.

Why? A cheap crappy turntable with a built-in pre-amp will be pretty awful, less good than mp3 at high bit rate. Get a Linn Sondek and Naim pre-amp and you'll be good to go. Although then you'll want to digitise it and put it into your Sonos, so why bother. Seriously.Comment

All you need to know is that like Beats, Sonos is well advertised but over priced, looks nice but the sound is nothing to write home about
Apart from audio quality, there is also the long term issue that even third party music services played through Sonos go via their servers
So if Sonos ever shuts up shop they'll be a nice paper weight (Very unlikely though, but still a potential risk)Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.
No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.Comment

I am a function over fashion person, SONOS does what I want it to do (play from a central media server into various other rooms), I am sure other configurations could do it, some might even be cheaper, but this does what I need it to do at a price I am willing to payOriginally posted by MicrosoftBob View PostAll you need to know is that like Beats, Sonos is well advertised but over priced, looks nice but the sound is nothing to write home about
