I keep seeing problem reports with the Mavericks version so thought I'd try something else. Not happy with the discovery in the last few minutes that Airmail doesn't seem to be showing all my mails. problem fixed.

What Cojak says for OmniGraffle Pro.

Another useful product from the Omni folks is OmniDiskSweeper. While other apps that tell you where your disk space has gone are prettier, OmniDiskSweeper was the one that really told me where that 150+ GB had gone.

I haven't needed Windows for quite a long time now, but since I have it, it's parked in a VM (three actually) and kept up to date just in case.

Despite what the marketing blurb from Parallels and VMware would have you believe, Windows isn't the only reason to run VMs. I've got various flavours of Linux in 'em.

Actually it was £1.49, my bad! There's a beta too but I still think I prefer Apple Mail...

Furthermore, should I also go for some kind of option that allows me to run windows software on the Mac?
However, I don't want to have to log in and out of each environment (OSX v Windows) to achieve this; i.e. I need the ability to easily switch between the Mac and Windows software speedily and with ease.

    Any thoughts?
I'm using MS Office for Mac 2011 atm. No problems here.

And I use Codeweaver CrossOver when I need to use the odd Windows app. I use Omnigraffle Pro and Merlin Project instead of Visio/Project.

I've used the last few incarnations of Office for Mac. I think the Microsoft Mac people have a bit of a chip on their shoulder around proving they're better than the Windows teams as I've never had any of the problems with the Mac version that I've had with the Windows versions over the years. The 2011 version is good, stable and just as good as Office 2010, better in some ways. The only problems I have are that they didn't migrate Visio and Project to Mac as well, I need to have a VM for them, admittedly using the Unity setting so it looks just like a Mac app.

I use VMWare Fusion for running my virtual machines, Parallels is the other big player I've used. They're both about the same overall, I just prefer VMWare as I'm used to it now. All the VM products are very easy to install, very easy to use and have plenty of integration with the Mac host as needed. Any MacBook Pro of the last 3-4 years can easily run VMs without too much stress on the system.

    - Never had any problems myself

    - I use Thunderbird under linux and it seems fine. But have a look here
Furthermore, should I also go for some kind of option that allows me to run windows software on the Mac?
    - I use virtualbox and just fire up the windows box when needed
However, I don't want to have to log in and out of each environment (OSX v Windows) to achieve this; i.e. I need the ability to easily switch between the Mac and Windows software speedily and with ease.
    - I would think running this is pretty easy with a VM
    Any thoughts?

Can't help with the email apps but for Windows have a look at VMWare Fusion, Parallels, or VirtualBox (free).
