Maybe there's an app for that. One that replicates the Classic's interface on the iPhone's touchscreen.

Then there's only the capacity (and maybe battery life?) that the Classic still holds over the younger upstarts.

Well you're not a typical user then - certainly not a typical iPod user.

I quite like the idea of an iPodClassicPhone - but realistically flash-based devices will have similar capacity in the near future.

For all my lambasting of the iPhone, the 4S might be the iteration that finally gets me interested in buying one, as the 64gb capacity might be enough for me.

Will need to check what's on my iPod Classic that I can definitely live without. Maybe go back from Apple lossless to 192kbps MP3 for some albums.

I've been impressed with a friend's iPod Touch for some time, it's just the piss poor capacity that put me off back then, so figured I'd wait until the iPhone capacity reached a certain threshold then I could move to one device for phone, music, video.

Not sure I dare look how much the iPhone 4S 64gb will be though?

Shots I do take with the phone generally get uploaded to Facebook or PhotoBucket straight afterwards so no need to keep them on the phone as well.

So it's technically not possible to slap in something comparable to 2 x 64gb SD cards for storage in a device the size of an iPhone, or put a slot in the side so we can add 64gb onto the built in storage?

You don't have to be anti-Apple to see they're playing the 'slowly improve the specs while people are happy to keep upgrading' scam. They'd be mad to go straight to say the iPhone 7 spec with 120gb storage when they can sell fanbois several phones before then.

Do you want a phone with a hard disk in it? You're just being silly. Even phones that support SD or micro SD cards don't have 120GB capacity yet. Bashing the iPhone in particular because it can't do something that no other phone can do either seems like the opposite of fanboism.

I know its a bit late know but I got exactly what I expected, iPhones have always gone Minor (Original), Major (3G), Minor (3GS), Major (4), Minor (4S) in releases. Most of iOS5's big things are pinched from Cydia so if you Jailbreak there has been nothing new, spec wise they are only on par with most of the other manufactures so I have jumped ship to the HTC Sensation XE.

I think people were realistically expecting something that was at least one better than an iPhone 4, whereas all they have is one with an added S. What a let down.

Does the S stand for tulip?

Will there be a T version that also stands for Tulip?

Aren't people getting a bit jaded with these minimally improved releases, or is fanboism still overpowering people's perspective on worthwhile upgrade paths?

I think I'll wait for iPhone 6, by which time maybe they'll have enough built in storage (seeing as they're so against giving owners power to use their own memory expansion cards ) so I can maybe upgrade from my iPod Classic with 120gb.

The rumour mill has it that Apple are waiting on improvements in NFC and LTE tech before they push out the iPhone 5. This one was more about filling the gap and iOS 5 than anything else.
