We have a SlingBox setup in the garage for my brother to use in Italy. It's connected to an old Freeview reciever and works pretty well. You are correct that it does need its own receiver and that no one else can be using it at the same time. As for things like series link etc, it's all down to what the Freeview receiver dooes, so if you want to be able to record/pause etc then you need a Freeview box with those features.

It's worth checking that there is a suitable remote configured for the Freeview box before buying one as that's quite important.

The system is generally reliable, it needs re-booting maybe 3 times a year and we have a web enabled plug so he can do it remotely without needing to ask me.

He uses an Amazon Firestick plugged into his TV at his end which means you can use the Firestick remote to control it all.

I have a new and virtually unused Slingbox back home that you could have at a good price to monkey around with, snag is I'm in east Asia right now and no trips home planned till October. If you are still interested then let me know. BTW, the reason it is almost unused is that I first got one and it kept hanging. I swapped it for a new one and then discovered it was overheating due to being in a cupboard with no/little ventilation. By the time I got the new one I'd lost interest so apart from seeing if it worked OK (it did) it remains unused at home.

started a topic Any Slingbox users?

    Any Slingbox users?

Anyone got a setup, don't need anything fancy, have BTTV at home but to be fair could do with just freeview, I assume the Slingbox will need it's own "receiver" of sort before forwarding it, and I assume it can't be used at the same time on the Slingbox setup and at home?

So BTTV at home, and a cheapo freeview box which Slingbox it is attached to, does any service like series link/playing back recorded tv (on the freeview box), are there any IP/geolocation restrictions if you are "slinging" out of the UK?
