I'd like to have one permanently attached but none seem discreet enough to worry I'm inviting some scroat to nick it
I made a fixing that allows me to swing it back to the roof and make it less obvious.

PS Of course it does help to drive a tatty old van that nobody would think would have anything worth nicking.

Probably time to buy a new car...lol. Surely, it will shift the focus from camera to the car :-)

I bought Nextbase 512G for around £130+, fixed it permanently at Halfords for £30 (including the kit and fixing charges). It is slightly higher priced compared to other models because of its high resolution and anti-glare (which I think is essential).

Looks like the price is now increased by around £20.

I bought a MiVue from Halfords. Very pleased with it. Has speed cameras, G-force, emergency activation, night vision etc. The playback software is excellent too. Already used it to help someone claim on their insurance when they got clipped by a van in front of me.

Thanks all, settled on a Nextbase 312, good compromise on quality, features, price and decent reviews on the web.

Only problem that I can level at it is that the internal (non removable) battery does not hold a charge so well now, so a series of shorter trips can sound the low battery warning when the car powers down - it is wired into switchable ignition source, so fires up with the car and shuts down after a preset delay on turning car off.
That's an often reported fault specifically for the 0806, but generally the tiny lithium batteries do not fair well in the sometimes high temperature environment car. I believe the later model (0826?) was billed with a super-cap, not sure if that made it to market as I have stopped looking now. It's ironic that Transcend went the other way, super-cap -> internal battery - that might be due to size or cost, or due to customer reviews of the DP200 losing date & time if left parked after a few days, not that I have experienced that at all.
