wife asked the Vet's receptionist why our cat 'Venus' (rescue cat, came with the name - I usually got a slap when I told the wife she needed to call the cat in at night) had five stars next to her name, apparently it was a nastiness rating and she was at the top.

I'd go for another Turkish Van like our second, Malcolm.

A real bruiser he was 1 stone of muscle, the vet loved him (really, Malcolm was unique and the vet specialised in cats).

We even wrote a song about him.

Our cat (well the wife's, they came as a pair) is also a rescue.

Although I want a silver tabby like in the Whiskers TV ads.

Surely the cattery folk must already know what his name is? Unless the heartless/desperate sods that left him there gave him false contact details as well!?

Anyway, you're a good person for taking him in. I had thought at the beginning of the story this was going to be about how he'd got out of his enclosure one night and given your little Mika a night of cat lovin' she'll never forget (which your innocent little Mika would never have dreamt of engaging in such behaviour before of course), with the new arrival(s) being the resultant kittens!

New arrival

Pretty much identical to our 1st cat, only we were putting Mr C's mum's cat there.

Mr C came back with the tale that a little cat had wrapped itself around his finger when he'd stroked it through the bar. I suspected it was rather the other way around, and after the 'little old lady' story I was sure of it.

We appear to have acquired a new cat.

When we dropped our cat Mika of at the cattery before going on holiday there was another cat in the run next to hers. Ginger and white, only one eye and looked a bit unloved, although he was very friendly. Turned out his "owners" had dropped him off at the cattery in July, it was now late September, and never came back for him. Phone number had gone dead, no contact from them after a couple of text messages saying they would pick him up "soon".

The cattery people were looking after him as best they could but he was starting suffer from being kept in the run on his own for so long.

While we were away, every time we thought about Mika we ended up wondering if he would still be there when we got back ( you can see where this is going now.) He was, and after a quick chat with the cattery people it was agreed we would take him in and foster hime for a couple of weeks and see how he got on with our cat, with the understanding that if it didn't work out they would take him back. Having been next to her for two weeks they had already had a chance to get to know each other so we were hopeful it would work out.

He's been with us for 10 days now and it looks like he will be staying for good. Aside from a bit of hissing and the occasional bat with a paw there have been no major disputes and he's settled in remarkably quickly. He's been to the vets for a check up and medically he seems fine, apart from his teeth needing a good clean. He's putting on weight and his fur has gone from being quite coarse and straw like back to being softer and glossier. Mike seems to be accepting his presence with reasonably good grace and they both happily curl up on my legs and chest when I am lying on the sofa.

And the name of our new feline lodger?
