Tedious drive down to Sussex. I'm guessing a lot of people wanted out of London today.

Mum spent most of the afternoon complaining about a noisy bird that she said was making a ticking noise but to me it sounded more like a chuh chuh chuh noise.

The drive home was uneventful and I found a parking spot that wasn't under a tree.

The duvet cover was dry when I got back (I put it outside before I left this morning) and the WM has just finished with the mattress protector.

    Dinner will be Dishoom leftovers.

I assumed it was autocorrect so I kept an eye out when composing my post, and it tried to do the same to me!

Tea has been a pork cutlet with chips and beans, mainly because the beans have been sitting in the fridge for nearly a week so I wanted to use them up

Bit warm today; I’m not looking forward to the rest of the week. And we’re not getting it anywhere near as bad as London

Just back from me son's place, he cooked a nice Father's Day Tea. Had a lounge on the patio earlier this afternoon, rather noisy - squealy kid 2 doors up, planes flying over from Gatwick, steam train chuffing through me village and whistling. Still, not as bad as me next door neighbour mowing his lawn with his chug, chug, chug, chug old mower.

No signoff last night as I’d inadvertently let my laptop battery plummet to the point where it entered an enforced sleep

So for the record: there was more watery wildlife stuff on the box, but this finished early because of the Isle of Wight Festival. So in the evening, I watched the final episode of Legends. Excellent series

And later, I read more of A Canticle for Leibowitz, reaching the end of the first part - it was originally three stories in sci-fi magazines, set in the same world over the space of a few thousand years

This morning, it’s supposedly cloudy out but it’s very thin stuff, with the blue of the sky showing through in many areas. And the heatwave starts in earnest: already at 20°C, it’s expected to rise to 26°. The barometers are up some more at 1014/1022mB

And it is, of course, the Summer Solstice! So a very happy Solstice to all

Blue sky, high level wisps. Currently 19 degrees ('feels like' 21) with a high of 40 expected Barometer up to 1024 mBar.

    Sunrise 04:44; Sunset 21:22 BST

    Happy solstice!

Woke early, too hot. But I did get up to put the duvet cover in the WM so it would be done by the time I planned to get up. Managed to doze for a few hours. Cleaned the shower while having a shower (so much easier that way).

Now having a cuppa before I head down to see Mum. I've closed all the blinds so hopefully the flat won't be too roasting when I get back.

    Morning.

    Sunday.

    Dry.

    Sunny.

Blue sky with wispy high cloud.

20.3 deg in here, 21.2 in the kitchen, 19 in the leanto, 17 in the saltinghouse.

1018 mBar, 30.06 in Hg, 763.6 Torr, 14.765 psi, (up from 1016 last night), 71% RH (Lidl electric).

Meanwhile on the 31st of March 2020: see above.

    Washing frenzy in progress.

Just received some beer & a box of chocolates from next door for repairing their washing line last week. .

Probably cost them more than just paying for the washing line.

Google reckons that the dark brown with a silvery fringe butterfly is a "ringlet". Never heard of that one before. It seemed to like the succulents.

Walk (unabbreviated, towpath) walked in the unbearable heat. Two conversations. Leg (right) started complaining at about 3.5 miles.

Lunch: brunch. Entertainment: nothing currently of innerest on R4 so probably tweet of the day, rather more to my taste than ISIHAC which I've cordially hated for half a century. Indeed: 54 years. Who'd have thunk?

Turns out Tweet of the Day started off with David Attenborough doing the presentation: #1: the cuckoo.

Stuff in off the line bone dry. That requiring the iRon received it & all is now airing upstairs, though getting upstairs & back down again is proving somewhat, er, tricky at the moment. . Ho hum. Entertainment: Tweet of the Day GQT (it was easier than taking this laptop out to the salting house. .).

Now outside a mug of consistent yet mediocre coffee.

The weather forecast for Wales is 38 deg FFS. At this rate I'll have to drag that ancient aircon thing up from the garage & plug the fecker in.

No second load of bed linen was laundered. The bed has just been made and the first load brought in.

    Dinner came courtesy of Dishoom.

Televisual entertainment was provided by S13E1 & 2 of The Curse of Oak Island and S15E9 & 10 of The Repair Shop.

It's going to be a sticky night's sleep. Currently 21 degrees ('feels like' 24) and will only drop to 18 overnight.

Tea was brought to me from Popeyes (no apostrophe) Louisiana Chicken. Nice enough

No sign of any balloons yet. Maybe they just stay tethered on the park or something?

Hoovering has been done. A proper job with things being moved and the fluffy brush tool being used on the skirting boards. The floor also needs mopping but that won't get done today.

    I'm too warm now.

First load of laundry done and out on the airers in the garden. In two minds whether to do the next load. There's a good chance the first lot will be dry by the time it's done but if it isn't then it's a logistical faff.

    Afternoon denizens

It’s a cloudy day, though there are blue gaps here and there. It’s also slightly less heatwavey at 21°C with an expected high of 23°. The barometers are finally getting with the programme, being up to 1007/1015mB. And the wind, presumably an important factor for the balloon festival down the road, will blow any balloonists that venture upwards directly towards us, so I should get a nice view of them drifting off towards Rutland

There’s no sign of any balloons right now though; I don’t know what goes on at these things, but I’d expect at least a few of them to aviate eventually

    Morning all

Cloudy with flecks of grey but the sun is making a valiant attempt to break through. Very 'close' and humid feeling. Currently 23 degrees ('feels like' 25) with a high of 26 expected. Might rain later, might not. Barometer up to 1018 mBar.

    Sunrise 04:44; Sunset 21:22 BST

The next solstice is tomorrow at 09:24 BST in London*

I have been to the farmers' market and bought much veg for HWMBO to do something with next week. The market is moving up the road for a little while as the council is doing pavement improvements around these parts (and very nice it looks, too).

Now to have a coffee before stripping the bed and commencing the laundering.

    * Obvs the solstice isn't only in London; I meant the time I gave is for London
