To the pub I went, and it's a very nice little place, located in what remains of the castle grounds

I ended up walking because when I went to get the bike, the magic code wouldn't open the room of storerooms! I think somebody's accidentally triggered the catch on the lock - maybe me, as I popped down earlier to get the lights off the bike so I could recharge them. Anyway, I had to abandon my plan to ride there and walk instead

To be honest, the walk back reminded me of how steep the road past the fire station is; as that's actually the least steep of the various ways of getting back up the hill to where I live, I should probably get a bit fitter before attempting to cycle home from that side of town

Tea: some kind of spicy chicken and potato thing out of the freezer, which I made so long ago that I'm not sure what the spices were. Nice though

It's been a busy day, but that's me done for the week and next week too!

Tonight, I'm going to the pub for a drink with my old friend the photographer

He's moved now, so we've agreed a place roughly halfway between us. I'm still trying to decide whether to walk or take the bike. There are cycle paths - proper road-separated ones as and when they coincide with roads - virtually the whole way, but coming back has a fair number of uphill stretches to it

Busy morning, many meetings. Then HWMBO turned up. A toasted cheese and tomato sandwich was had for lunch, after picking out bits of mould and chucking the rest of the loaf.

One of the best things about clients supplying you with a laptop and then sending out "mandatory software updates" is that you must install them. Win 11 24H2 is over 1.5 billable hours in to the install and at 64%.
(note: doing a mandatory install on a client machine is not a flag for IR35, although I'm sure some on here would refuse to do it for fear that 10 years into their employment role with the one end company, they might be accused of not really being a contractor)

Meanwhile on the 24th of February 2020 Brillo, BR14, scruff, wattaj, and SimonMac popped in, whilst NF posted Monday links and I read a book due to the inclemency of the weather.

Walk (unabbreviated, towpath) walked in the grey gloom.

Shopping trip to Morrisons done dusted washed dried sanitised & put away.

Lunch: brunch. Entertainment: thing about HR on The Bottom Line. Sliced Bread: nail fungus.

Nice afternoon potching about with the welders again: used the buzz box this time.

"Repaired" a couple of Lidl(tm) garden shears which had failed in the same way due to cutting stuff that was too thick: some very poor welds have cured that for the moment but probably won't last long (unlike the ancient shears inherited from parents & grandparents which a) don't need welding and b) are very strong).

Finally managed to make a weld that looked as if I'd actually done it before. .

Tea: beans on toast etc.

Entertainment: PM.

Discovering Movies: The 39 steps (1935).

Discovering Diane Keaton. Well I've watched the Godfather. .

Possibly "Wind River (2017)" which I see that NF watched in 2019 and I watched in 2020.

Much cloud, but in the form of ranks of little clumps, meaning most of the sky seems covered but there's enough by way of gaps for it to be relatively bright compared to recent mornings. Still on the cooler side though at 10°C with 14° as the expected high; the barometer are down a bit at 1017/1025mB

Overcast and cool out, but a pleasant (if short) walk has been had. The walk was shortened by a message from a delivery driver saying he would be round at 7am. At 7:15, he messaged again to say it would be 7:40

And then back to Ossian's Ride, where the adventure continues to be an odd mix of derring do and rather abstruse science

I didn't do any gin testing in the end. Just had water.

Dinner was a jacket potato with cheese and coleslaw.

Watched an episode of last year's Portrait Artist of the Year and read about some of the controversies about the programme format and lack of transparency regarding judging criteria.

Once again, an Amazon package was delivered to me today, but was nowhere to be found when I finally had time to go downstairs and look for it. And once again, it's appeared outside my flat door, unopened, some time between eight and nine in the evening

It seems unlikely that they were delivered to the wrong flat or flats, as on both occasions they wouldn't fit through the letterbox

And I'm watching Why Planes Crash on iPlayer. The answer mainly seems to be "because they hit things" as so far we've had a Korean plane brought down by a bird strike, some stuff about Sully and the Hudson landing, and the plane that a Black Hawk flew into in Washington earlier this year

Laundry didn't get put away in the end. I actually was busy with work, would you believe.

Many things ticked off the to-do list.

Waitrose delivered half an hour before the booked slot.

I think it's time to clock off and test the gin is still ok.
