Finally, a drain blown king cap that fits has arrived!

It doesn't seem to be a perfect seal, but only in the sense of running the tap for a while results in a tiny drop around the edge, which would probably evaporate before getting to the point of falling under most circumstances. I gave it an extra quarter turn or so after finger tight with a strap wrench, but I don't want to risk over tightening it and it's fine like that

So I have finally been able to put the dishwasher on - except I can only open the door about halfway down because the new machine is in the way

Oh well, it's just another minor annoyance. It's on now; I'll keep checking for drips or worse from time to time, but it'll probably be fine

The corner cupboard door has been reattached!

In the hassle of dealing with the delivery blokes on Tuesday, I'd adopted the straightforward approach of unscrewing the hinges from the door. But later investigation revealed that I could have just popped the hinges off where they attach to the cupboard by pressing a little tab at the back of each one

So I took them off and reattached them to the door, but it was quite unwieldy trying to get them lined up to attach to the cupboard again, and I gave up after a minute or two; the door stood neatly in the corner and wasn't getting in the way, at least as compared to the sodding great machine

But I just found an Amazon delivery box that was exactly the right height to rest the door on while lining up the hinges! With that, it only took about two seconds to get them clicked back into place, and they don't even need readjusting

Shopping done!

I ended up going to Not-As-Big Sainsbury's, because a check of the Viz calendar showed that I'll need to go to Big next week for the new issue

I found most things I wanted, though one element of a new recipe I'm planning to try wasn't available, and is apparently not stocked there. But it's more like a garnish, to a certain extent, in that I can still make the fundamental dish and get a feel for how to balance the flavours and spices and so on, then try enhancing it with that at a later date.

Most other stuff I wanted was there, though it was necessary to reach right to the back to get half-decent dates on most of the meat

I ended up buying rather a lot of meat, in fact, there being several dishes I fancy trying out or just haven't had in a bit. This means I'll be cooking most days next week, rather than grabbing something out of the freezer. But now that work involves stuff that's more along the lines of what I enjoy doing, I'm feeling a lot less fed up at the end of the working day, so I reckon I'll be OK with settling down for a bit of cooking most days

Cloudy grey day out, though any rain has supposedly already happened and it might even brighten up towards teatime. It's staying cooler, being 15°C now and aiming for 19°. The barometers are decidedly pessimistic, being down to 983/991mB

Off to do the shopping shortly. I may go to Big Sainsbury's, rather than dealing with the less extensive range of options at the nearer one

Meanwhile on the 12th of February 2020 there was much discussion of washing machine temperatures, towels etc. while xogg got a cheque for 5p as a refund for his lost O2 phone, BR14 popped in whilst watching Hill Street Blues (hey hey hey! let's be careful out there! I wonder if he watched it all: we'll never know), and LM washed cottons at 60 deg, as did NF, in major bug killing mode.

The nightmare before waking involved me getting a contract somewhere in that south of Engerland where I'd started before signing the contract and local hotels were very expensive. I was glad to wake up & find it wasn't real. It was something to do with serial comms and security or something. Seemed unlikely to me but there you go.

Walk (towpath, unabbreviated) walked in the sunshine until 300 yards from home whereupon it rained on me.

The canal is looking much healthier with ample very brown water in it. Tree down over the tow path. I wonder how long it'll be before the PTB do sommat about it.

River much less in flood than yesterday.

Lunch: brunch. Entertainment: Food programme, thing about South African murder trial, noon o'clock news, next thing <click>

At least the afternoon's freecell sessions were better: 89% and 95%, running average: 83%.

Tea: chicken in white sauce etc.

Entertainment: Thing about cat ladies. PM.

Looks like there's bugger all to watch on the idiot lantern again: dozens of channels of dross & still nothing to watch. I suppose the bollox on Blaze at 21:00 might just be tolerable if I try hard.

Plan B, or maybe W by now: Screwfix! They're only about five minutes from here, depending on the traffic lights, so I searched on their website and it offered something which appeared as if it might do the job. Ordered from the local store and got confirmation it was ready for me in seconds, so I drove down there and collected it. Getting back, I discovered that it's completely useless! Despite being sealed in McAlpine packaging with "1¼ inch" clearly printed on it, it appears to be much larger by a quarter of an inch at least, maybe more; and it also seems a bit more complicated than is required, being in four parts

But as I was over that side of hereabouts, it gave me an excuse to make a minor detour on the way back. So it's been fish & chips from the VAT fraud chippy for tea!

And Amazon have refunded the extra shipping charge too, possibly because I opted to get it on my Amazon gift card balance rather than in the bank, so they know it'll come back to them soon

No, it was ArrowXL for the machine, with Amazon's uselessness last night as a bonus

Amazon's order details page showed that they were making no attempt to redeliver, despite the message on there saying they would. As far as I could tell, they were expecting me to fill in a form explaining how to get to the front door they were at last night, and which every other Amazon driver realises has a large panel next to it with bell pushes for each flat and an intercom. So I've ordered another blanking cap and cancelled the original order, for which I get a refund, though not of the £1.99 I had to pay for same-day delivery

Before that, I popped round to the little hardware shop on the shopping road. Turned out he had blanking caps in several sizes, but not the size I needed
