I really need to try the fish and chip shop at the bottom of my road. It's just reopened after a refurb, and had a name change. I guess that means new ownership.

This evening I watched some tat on YouTube and then the last two episodes of Unforgotten series 2. Although it was a very good ending, I also wanted a bit more closure. Always leave them wanting more!

Another week done!

I may be enjoying the work more, but I’m still glad when it stops for a few days

As soon as I’d finished, I headed out to Not as Big Sainsbury’s to get the shopping out of the way. I don’t usually go at that time because it’s the rush hour, and it turned out to be even worse than I expected because of temporary lights at some roadworks a mile or more down the main road. But I got there eventually and it wasn’t too busy, so I was able to get such things as I remembered to get quite quickly

Coming home, I made a detour to the VAT fraud chip shop, which was also not as busy as I thought it would be. So tea has been haddock and chips, and very nice it was too

Thoroughly grumpy after drive back from me toothpaste inspection took me an extra 20 mins due to yet more *** road works. Cheering meself up by listening to Fleetwood Mac CD. Nowt has ever compared to Fleetwood Mac or The Moody Blues.

Another old fart thing at local cafe tomorrow. Dunno. Tues was art thing, Wed local history thing, this morning Mahjongy thing. Think I'm old farted out.

Lunch: Heinz chicken soup and white toast

And amidst work and meetings, I found time to put a bedding wash on - duvet cover, sheet, and pillowcases. This is one of the rather heavy duvet covers so I’ve now got that drying separately, while the rest waits damply in the laundry basket. I don’t know if the theory that it’s quicker to dry such a load in two halves is true, but I do it anyway

Tired this morning.

The accountants finally sent through my accounts yesterday. Now to check it all as they've found some 'rounding error' which simply doesn't happen. I reconcile to the penny as there's really nothing complicated going on that means 27p should go adrift. It being divisible by 9 makes me think two numbers have been transposed somewhere. I spent 9 years doing accounts and was taught by someone who believed in getting it right irrespective of how big the company is.

Once I've cross referenced their CT calculations against FreeAgent and understood the reason for any differences, I am likely to bin them off as the service since they merged with another firm has not been great.

This is why i'm happy with my new gig.
self employed freelance consultant. I do my own accounts (excel) but have freeagent available if HMRC insist.
I think i'll knock it on the head at the 20% tax threshold though .

Walk (unabbreviated, towpath) walked in the grey gloom. Canal a lot lower today.

Lunch: brunch. Entertainment: stuff on R4 including bottom line, sliced bread, TWATO.

Raining. I was going to address the quantity of live brambles in the greenhouse. I may do so still if I can be arsed.

It stopped. Brambles in greenhouse duly dealt with ready for the next bonfire. Ashes from yesterday's added to the "compost heap" which will probably upset some worms.

Pane of glass in roof of greenhouse noted to be cracked with a piece missing. Dunno when that happened.

Worked up quite a sweat on my brow. Now that doesn't happen often. .

Last time was in the summer when I was repairing the two drawer unit thingie that fits under the work bench.

Tea: beans on toast etc. Enhanced by adding everything I could think of to the bland tasteless Morrisons low everything beans. Must make sure I never ever buy those again.

Entertainment: the science thing. PM. <click> when Lammy came on.

Tonight’s viewing was the rest of the Traffic Cops I started watching last night

Same bug with the ads. I think it comes from stopping it just as the ad break starts, so it can probably be avoided by stopping just before the title card disappears

Made some good progress with the CoreGraphics stuff. I think I must have being doing it in a “Swifty” way as lots of things are coming together nicely, such that stuff that one would think would be complicated turns out to be very simple

And I finished Ambient, which was very good. Next up is Terraplane: second to be written, fourth in the timeline

Thursday tomorrow! It seems to come around quicker every week, possibly because I’m enjoying work so the days aren’t dragging

Tea has been the lamb tagine I made a while ago, with experimental spicy rice

The tagine was a bit too rich, I thought when I first made it; I was probably using a recipe for more lamb than I had, so it ended up too concentrated. But it went well with the rice, which cut the flavour a bit while adding some of its own

You can tell that I’m enjoying the work on this project a lot more than the previous ones because it’s the second day in a row that I’ve worked an extra twenty minutes or so because I wanted to get something just right

Afternoon denizens

I seem to have neglected to post this morning!

I was a bit distracted by having to load the dishwasher, which I emptied last night - I kept forgetting to run it over the last few days so a fair few dirty pots and pans had built up in the kitchen, to the point where I had to get them out of the way to be able to make breakfast

Anyway, it’s a grey day yet again. Not quite as windy as it was though, and no rain expected. We’ve reached the day’s high of 17°C and the barometers are down a touch at 994/1001mB

Lunch has been a roast pork bap (wholemeal) with apple sauce

And shortly before lunchtime, I developed a migraine. It’s a rare thing for me, and nowhere near as bad as some people get it, but not at all enjoyable
