    Morning all

Cloudy start but it's brightened up considerably since. Currently 10 degrees with a high of 14 expected. Barometer up to 1019 mBar.

    Sunrise 05:54; Sunset 18:21

First load of bed linen washed and draped. Just the duvet cover to do when I get a round tuit.

    Morning.

    Monday.

    Dry.

    Sunny.

Chilly in here at 14.8 deg, 13 deg in the kitchen, 12.5 in the leanto, 8.8 in the saltinghouse.

1014 mBar, 29.9434 in Hg, 760.56 Torr, 14.7 psi, (up from 1009 last night), 61% RH (Lidl electric).

Meanwhile on the 4th of January 2020 BR14 and Brillo popped in, NF had a restless night, as did I, whereas the Leicester rugby football and association football companies had arranged matches at different times on that day to make sure the entire place was overwhelmed.

Shopping trip to Morrisons done dusted washed dried sanitised & put away.

Walk (unabbreviated) walked in the intolerable heat & sunshine.

    Two brimstone butterflies spotted.

    Lunch: brunch:

    Entertainment: TWATO.

    Morning denizens

Grey but mild start again, no more rain having happened overnight. 5°C now ("feels like" 2°, though TBH it doesn't seem that breezy) with an expected high of 13° accompanied by sunshine this afternoon. The barometers are heading back up at 1006/1014mB

Just in time bed making has been done.

The journey home from Mum's was quite tedious but I did discover a few new roads about these parts that, should ever remember them, could prove useful in the future.

Later viewing was the not-quite-latest episode of 24 Hours in A&E

And after that, I read some more of Caledonian Road

Monday again tomorrow. Only four more to go before I get a break

    Goodnight all

Got a couple of friends coming round this evening. Gammon, roast chicken, stuffing, roast potatoes and some kind of veg. And considerable wine.

Yesterday had an old friend round - he's 66 - and we had steak and chips and mushrooms and spinach. All the while he was telling me of the benefits of a vegan diet... The chips and mushrooms were vegan I suppose. The spinach had anchovies in it.

Actually closed between junctions 11 and 10 (or 10 and 11).

Google Maps directed me along a decent route, which makes a change.

    Brunch: a fry-up

I used one of the large cast iron griddle pans to make this, as an experiment. It's so big it spans two burners on the hob, so I had it spanning one of the normal-sized ones and the small one, the latter being on as low as it goes. The idea was that I could use the less-hot end for keeping stuff warm while cooking other bits on the hot end. It worked out very well - better than I expected. I was a bit concerned about the fried egg as I wasn't sure how that would cope with the undulating ridges, but it turned out just right and didn't stick at all

Forgot to mention: the bed has been stripped and is airing. Here's hoping I remember to make it before bed time.

    Laundry will be done tomorrow
