Sunny with wispy stuff. Currently 18 degrees with a high of 21 expected. Cloud cover set to increase as the day progresses. Barometer continuing its downward trend to 1023 mBar.

Off to see Mum today and do the front lawn as my brother picked up a replacement battery charger for the lawnmower yesterday. The weather down there is much the same, a degree cooler probably due to the sea breeze.

Mum has changed her online banking password again. I really need to get the PoA into Lloyds and sort out my own, proper, access. Her accounts don't need much maintenance but I was planning on moving a load of her savings to a better paying account.

Tonight's major motion picture premiere was Ingrid Goes West (2017) in which… well, IMDb puts it pretty well: "An unhinged social media stalker moves to LA and ingratiates herself into the life of an Instagram star." I'd probably say "influencer" rather than "star", to make it clear that they're just an Instagram person. Anyway, I thought it was very good. The unhinged stalker Ingrid is played by Aubrey Plaza, who was also very good in Emily the Criminal

And then a couple of rewatches, first up being the gloriously deranged Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

And finally, Last Night in Soho (2021) which is IMHO even better on second viewing

I forgot to mention that on the way south, I was delayed for a minute or so by a Crouch Recovery vehicle collecting a car from a house about half a mile up the road from their HQ, which is on my route

Spent most of the day working, helping out the developer who was mopping up the mess left on Friday.

Then I popped out to the back garden because I noticed some bamboo had shot up and must have been 10 or 12 feet tall. I was really worried that I'd have to pay someone a fortune to cut it back cos that stuff is tough! Turns out, new bamboo is really malleable and a pair of secateurs cut them down in no time. Very satisfying.

Whilst working I watched MasterChef, Location³ and Task Master.

Back home from the now traditional trip south to take my Dad to see my Mum in hospital (and see her myself, of course). Nice day for a drive, being very sunny with the vegetation and livestock working overtime to make the countryside look scenic

My Mum's now been transferred to a different hospital site where the fracture specialist unit is located. She seems in better spirits now she's getting the proper care there and with the physio able to give her at least a vague idea of how long rehab will take. It's also nearer home, which helps with the sense of making progress towards getting back there on a subconscious level, I reckon.

Sadly, though, this means no driving past the HQ of the Panaceans, so their shades didn't get a wave today

Awoke before 7 am but don't know exactly when as I refused to look at the clock until 7.13 am. Got up about 8.30 am and pottered about before deciding to have a go a the hedge by the front gate as it was becoming difficult to get through the gate. I don't have the tools or the willingness to climb a ladder so now the hedge has a rather odd shape with a bulbous top.

Waiting on two shopping orders as I decided to shop with both Waitrose and Ocado in order to select the cheapest items from each. Much needed for next week as I have HWMBO and his kids in and out at various times.

Today - well, yesterday now - was the 35th anniversary of Sheffield (and most other places) being devastated in a nuclear attack. Yes, May 26th is Threads Day! So first up on the telescreen was Threads (TV Movie 1984) being the second time I've ever watched it. It doesn't get any easier on repeated viewing

After that, I needed something poles apart from that. It's been a while since I last rewatched The Devil Wears Prada (2006) but it seems to have served as a mind cleansing agent, at least for now. I daresay I'll find out if it really worked when I start to dream

Due to the day being a bit busy, I omitted to mention that all laundry was washed and put out on the line to dry.

The oven was also given a cursory clean but it turned out not to be all that mucky.

Finished work about half an hour ago due to one of the permies claiming at 4.25pm that their work was done and they'll be back on Weds. Turns out their work was not done and I had to draft a load of bug fixes for another permie to sort out tomorrow. I am very grumpy on behalf of the permie who picked up the work. They have a superb work ethic and know that without them giving up their Saturday our go live on Weds is at risk.
