Wedding day. None of us want to go. Mum especially was refusing to get dressed, saying her family are all c's and why would she want to see them. Last week she was pleased at the prospect, saying she hasn't seen them in ages. My brother managed to get her bundled in the car a mere 25 mins behind schedule. Said schedule has a heck of a lot of slack, thank goodness. I'm thinking I'd like to come home after the speeches finish at 6pm. This does mean forfeiting a night in the salubrious Travelodge Maidenhead but that's a cost I'm willing to bear.

Another rather grey day, though apparently it might brighten up a bit this afternoon. It's staying cooler too: 15°C now with a high of 20° predicted. The barometers are much the same at 1007/1015mB

There's been much activity from the lift this morning, after the manner of a lift engineer checking it out. I hope it's just a routine inspection or a service or something; I doubt the washer-dryer delivery people will be keen on carrying the new machine up to the third floor via the stairs on Friday

Meanwhile on the 9th of February 2020 DaveB made a nice lunch, the rain here went from horizontal drizzle to horizontal murrain of beasts, WTFH asked NF what the weather was like in Memphis, then declared he wanted a weather station, whereas NF had a decent night's sleep, however LM mentioned something about the British Museum to the ankle biter who then wanted to go there despite the weather.

In The Rewind Files, our time-travelling agent has stumbled across the Watergate burglary, and has inadvertently caused the burglars to be caught! Nobody in the future can work out yet whether this is going to turn out to be a good or bad thing…

Earlier today, I managed to do a bit more sorting out of stuff around the flat that needed dealing with. I'm now reasonably optimistic about it being possible to get the new washer-dryer from the door to the kitchen

Tea has been a rack of ribs and chips

I didn't get around to putting it on until about half four, so it only had a couple of hours. Rookie mistake - it really needs three or four hours at around 120°C, sealed in under foil, before uncovering it and whacking the heat up to finish it off. Ah well, I'll remember next time

This was accompanied by the second half of an episode of Police Interceptors which featured the rare case of one of them allowing a bloke whose vehicle had been deemed unroadworthy (bald tyres, broken lights including indicators, didn't even have a horn) to finish his journey to work, as it was literally just round the corner and he worked at a car restorers. You more often see the New Zealand cops doing that than the Notts ones

Meanwhile on the 9th of February 2020 it was very windy, BR14 and Brillo popped in, along with Phil The Greek and Anonimouse, DaveB did running repairs on the gate, WTFH went around Memphis to a museum, then for a walk, NF watched "Training Day", and LM was kept awake by the rattling of the windows in the gale, whereas the rain around here was horizontal.

The water level in the canal above the lock has dropped another inch since yesterday.

Wound a toroidal core for an un-un 9:1 balun. No idea if it'll work since the core is of unknown qualities and the winding less than professional.

Checked the value of some FORTRAN tomes: £10 to £15. However the UNIX Hater's Handbook is worth all of £25, or £57 if you're daft enough to look in abebooks. I don't think Oxfam would be innerested in any of the above. . I think the M$ FORTRAN 77 still exists on one or other of the hds littering the place.

Glad to say that the tapping from next door seems to have stopped. Now I can put the lump hammer back in the shed. .

Following yesterday evening's trip to the chiropractor, I slept soundly. Didn't get up until 6.20, so a very short walk, not even 7,000 steps!
Oh, and now our boiler has cut out twice. The overheat reset worked the first time, but not now. No hot water.
