The US border mob were annoying people for no good reason earlier, but I didn't pay a lot of attention. The farcical nature of so much of what they do was well brought out by the way they gave close scrutiny to a couple of guys who run a legal cannabis farm in Washington state, who were returning from British Columbia with a sifting machine that is also legal in that jurisdiction. Their reasoning, to use the term loosely, was that although this stuff was legal on both sides of the border, it potentially wasn't on the actual border itself, though in the end they decided that a clean, brand new agricultural machine was actually OK there too

Meanwhile, I got some work done on the business of implementing parametric curves and surfaces of revolution in Swift, which was fun because I was able to get a very efficient implementation working using some aspects of the language I haven't worked with much before

And this evening, a couple of old episodes of 24 Hours in A&E

Monday again tomorrow. At least the next one will be a Bank Holiday

Lunch has been Chinese leftovers. Very nice, and made me glad I'd over-ordered

In other morning activity, the bed has been stripped and left to air. I've also cleaned the microwave, including putting the glass turntable through the dishwasher as that was full enough to justify putting it on

The haze has burned off and it's a clear blue sky out there

I've noticed a thrush frequenting the big lawn at various times throughout the day recently, which I don't recall seeing last year. It's quite a large specimen, so I think it might be a mistle thrush. I'll have to get the binoculars on it and have a proper look

Morning all

Yesterday was cloudy and about 22 degrees. Showers were forecast but never materialised. Barometer had crept up to 1015 mBar.

Today there's blue sky with lumps of fluff. Currently 17 degrees with a high of 22. Barometer steady.

Had a very nice day yesterday. Went to see A Long Day's Journey into Night with a friend. Then met HWMBO and some of his old work colleague for drinks, dinner, more drinks over Shoreditch way.

Today HWMBO and I are going to visit Mum. She hasn't seen him in a while so it'll be interesting to see if she remembers he's a 6'4" large chap of Indian heritage.

Meanwhile on the 29th of September 2019 I watched yet more Jeremiah, whilst NF popped out the back to look at the stars and found it chilly at 12 deg C, whereas WTFH took a photo of his scars & posted one on twatter.

Lunch with Sister, then a trip up to the Bwlch Rhigos mountain to buy an icecream from the icecream van: unfortunately: no icecream van.. So went all the way back to Tesco to buy some Tesco cones instead. Lovely views from the Bwlch car park despite the lack of icecream: the Tower Colliery is closed, there's a shedload of windmills everywhere, and there's a zipline company milking the oiks of their hardearned, plus some sort of gocart circuit.

Lunch (when I eventually returned): beans on toast etc.

Entertainment: some curious play by Ford Maddox Ford. It involved prussic acid at one point.

Tea: soup etc.

Entertainment: Digging for Britain (2014).

Skinwalker Ranch "What a Mesa". They're drilling holes in the mesa. No good shall come of this.

Sunny start out and going to continue that way all day, it seems, though with the caveat that there does seem to be a bit of a high haze at the moment. Currently 13°C and aiming for 21°. The barometers are up a little to 1004/1012mB. And there's a light breeze helping fresh air to circulate

Sad times on Monkey Life today as Sammy, one of the original group of chimps that founded the place (with a little help from the Cronins), died suddenly of an aortic aneurysm in his 40s. And then Toprish, who was only 14, also died suddenly of a pulmonary embolism

This evening, I've started reading Atomic Accidents by James Mahaffey

Early night now, so I have more time to not get around to doing stuff tomorrow
