The flat was once again in danger of being bought by Tate Modern after they mistook it for an installation in which all trace of human life has been completely buried beneath empty Amazon packaging. So recycling bags have been filled and used to inconvenience the neighbours by reducing the amount of space left in the orange bins. Three bags!

Now having a cup of coffee to unwind after the unwonted, and unwanted, exertion

    Afternoon.

    Friday.

    Dry.

    Wanly sunny ealier, grey now.

Chilly in here at 13.6 deg, 12.5 deg in the kitchen, 11 deg in the leanto, 7.8 deg in the saltinghouse.

1014 mBar, 29.9434 in Hg, 760.56 Torr, 14.706 psi, (up from 1008 last night), 64% RH (Lidl electric).

Meanwhile on the 8th of December 2019 NF was singularly unimpressed with "Octopussy" and turned it off after 20 mins in favour of more "The Wire S4", whereas I was busily coughing my lungs up at about the same time having found it necessary to get up & take two different cough mixtures and some Gran Marnier in an attempt to return to the land of nod, this being suspiciously close to the advent of the chinese bat plague on reflection . LM was down south somewhere being Auntie LM to her oldest friend's kids, amid discussions of her Nan.

Walk (unabbreviated) walked in the wan sunshine, during which the two plod wagons that hared up the road earlier were discovered parked next to the gate of the reservoir. Asked a chap WTF was going on but he refused to say.

On my return I bagged up more of the garden detritus and stuck it all in the greenhouse to dry out a bit, ready for the next bonfire, whenever that transpires.

    Lunch: brunch.

Entertainment: Nazi Hunters: about the Jewish plans A & B to poison Nazis in 1945/46. Plan A (to poison 6 million Germans) abandoned, Plan B (to poison 6000 SS inmates in a prison camp with bread laced with arsenic): worked, though the US Army busily pumped their stomachs so none of them died. Never heard of either of those plans before.

    It's getting darker.

Doing its best to rain a little.

We'll have a few quiet days next week as the consultancy all the others work for is doing a three-day "workshop" on Writing Clean Code which a bunch of them are attending. IIRC there's already a book on the subject, so to my mind it would make more sense to just send them a copy of that and let them spend three days reading it. But I tend to side with my friend who said many years ago that he distrusts any use of the word "workshop" other than in the context of light engineering

It was M&S then Big Sainsbury's in the end and I was able to get everything… everything I remembered to get, at least

The maze of car parks around M&S and the other emporia was getting Christmas-crazy with people, but I managed to find a space very close to the shop. It was one of those right next to a trolley shelter with somebody badly parked close to the line on the other side, and a couple wouldn't want to park there because one of them would be unable to get out. I must remember to look out for that combination in future, as it's fine if there's just one of you

And after a brief visit to M&S it was over to Sainsbury's where I managed to get a good space again, despite it being busy there too. I didn't need much really as I'll have time to go at less busy days and times after next week, so it was mainly just food for the next week.

Time for lunch now. I didn't get anything from the hot food counter as there's stuff in the fridge that Needs to be Eaten™

    Morning all

Blue sky with wisps here and there. Still damp in some corners from last night's rain. Currently 7 degrees ('feels like' 5) with a high of 9 expected. Light winds from the west. Cloud cover set to increase as the day progresses with rain forecast from 6pm onwards. Barometer up to 1018 mBar.

Quiet day at the coal face as ConsultancyCo has their Christmas do today, which I opted out of.

    Morning denizens

After the wind and rain of last night, today's a sunny start with a few wispy strands high up in the sky. I assume this is the "calm before the storm" one hears about. It's currently 6°C and "feels like" 2° and while it'll only get to a high of 8° this afternoon before dropping again, it then starts to crank it up as more wind and rain moves in during the hours of darkness, reaching 11° by midnight. The barometers are up to 1005/1013mB, though I don't suppose that will last

Most importantly, it's Friday! I need to decide which Sainsbury's to go to and whether to visit M&S as well if I go to the big one

Tonight's viewing was the latest episode of 24 Hours in Police Custody in which we discover that Biggleswade is apparently a hotbed of crime

And in addition to a bit of mucking around with SwiftUI stuff, I read a couple of chapters of MI9 by Helen Fry. She's a proper historian so it's a bit dry at times, but still interesting

Early night now so I'm ready to make the most of Friday!

    Goodnight all

It's very windy already, with rain from time to time. Does this mean it's going to get even worse?

Tea has been shepherd's pie, there having been a bit of it left in the freezer

Work done, timesheet approved, and… WEEKEND!

Today was reasonably enjoyable actually, though I still find the project as a whole somewhat tedious

My parcel was delivered shortly after 12.30 pm. Therein concluding the Uninteresting Parcel Saga.

Interesting meeting this afternoon. Due to the small attendee list and certain people not being present, it only overran by 8 minutes and the overrun was not due to superfluous chit chat or obscure tangents being taken.

Lunch has been a pork and apple sauce bap (wholemeal) with a bag of plain crisps

Been doing some stuff that's moderately interesting today, for a change. I'll still be glad when five comes around and I'm done for the week, though

I think I'll submit my timesheet now before getting back to the fray

Just noticed the estimated delivery time is 9.10 am - 11.10 am. I think it's missed that slot by some margin.
