Morning denizens

Sunny start, with some clouds hither and yon, and more arriving later. Going to be a bit cooler today: currently 13°C, it's only expected to reach 18° this afternoon, then cool back down and possibly (30%) rain a bit at teatime. The barometers are back up a bit at 991/999mB

I was just poking my head out of the bedroom window, taking in the view of the trees and things and seeing which members of the avian contingent were up and about, and a blue tit flew up from the small tree that spreads over the wall from the neighbouring garden, landed clinging to the wall a couple of feet to the side of the window and slightly above me, glanced quizzically at me for a second or two, then flew back down!

I watched the second part of the Scottish murder thing, as each episode is only thirty minutes

Apparently there's a chance of seeing the aurora over the next couple of nights! Probably when I'm asleep because I have to be up in the morning, though. They should do it at the weekend

September 7th will be a full moon and a lunar eclipse so if you have unimpeded views eastwards and it's clear it might look rather cool (actually reddish).

Though I noticed last night that the moon is very low in the sky here this month, so even if the sky's clear, it may be obscured by the tall trees that adorn the neighbourhood

Tea has been a couple of chicken thighs, seasoned with herbs and spices and cooked in the air fryer, with chips. It's the first time I've tried doing chicken thighs in there and they turned out very nicely

And lunch, which I neglected to record because lunchtime was a bit pressured due to last-minute Teams meetings, was some cold bits of sweet and sour pork left over from Saturday

Tea has been accompanied by the first part of Limbs in the Loch: Catching a Killer on iPlayer, yet another murder documentary from BBC Scotland. Bet the Scottish Tourist Board love them for revealing that the tranquil glens and lochs are actually a hotbed of murderous violence

Today's dream before waking involved some peculiar radio thing that was monitoring something or other, most of it was semiconductor apart from the output which used a valve. No idea WTF that was all about.

Shopping trip to Morrisons done dusted washed dried sanitised & put away. It rained on me. A lot.

Lunch: brunch. Entertainment: The R4 thing about WWII in Asia. They mentioned that there is no monument to the Indian soldiers who fought in WWII. They didn't mention the statue to Chandra Bose who had support from dear old Adolph & Hirohito.

Shopping trip to Tesco: 38 (double decker for some reason) out, 204 back.

It's also the start of meteorological autumn, I do believe. But I reckon that's just a convenience invented to make the weather forecasters' spreadsheets easier to manage, and will await the Autumnal Equinox

Time for a change from sci-fi, so tonight I started reading The Collected Stories of Rumpole by John Mortimer. The title is something of a misnomer though; according to the introduction there are four novels and eighty short stories, and this contains twenty short stories. So they only collected a few

Anyway, it's quite entertaining. I'd never read any before, and nor have I seen the TV programmes. I always assumed the TV stuff was adaptations, but it turns out the Play for Today in the mid-1970s was actually the first appearance of the character, with the written versions following from that

Monday again tomorrow, and my first Monday working since the end of July. But as I mentioned the other day, I think the stuff I'm working on now will be more enjoyable; we shall see

HWMBO and I arrived in Madrid within 5 mins of each other despite us both experiencing weather related delays.

On our stroll.back from dinner, I noticed the bar next door to our hotel had a good selection of gins. One of which being HWMBO's favourite. So we stopped in for one. The free pour was exceptionally generous and with a whole bottle of tonic was still "strong". At only €12 a drink, it's now our official gin joint for the next couple of days, until we move hotels and it becomes less practical.
