The new boiler has packed up. No pressure. I could have investigated how to top it up but the plumber really ought to work out what he did wrong first.

Tonight was Sisu night here, starting with a rewatch of Sisu (2022) followed by Sisu: Road to Revenge (2025) in which the Finnish gentleman who inflicted such extraordinary mayhem on the Nazis when they tried to steal his gold proceeds to inflict yet more mayhem on officers of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics when they try to capture him in retaliation for his activities during the Winter War. They’re both very good, though the sequel is possibly not as quintessentially perfect as the first, because you can’t really improve on perfection. But it’s well worth watching if you like that kind of thing (extremely brutal and bloody violence)

I noticed that both of them have gaping plot holes around the question of how the dog ended up back with him at their respective ends, but I think any and all such questions should be dismissed with the standard “a story not a documentary” get-out clause

And then the last two episodes of Hijack. I still think hijacking a Tube train is a more inherently interesting idea than hijacking a plane because the constraints imposed by the physical structure of an underground rail network make it more interesting when the writers think of an unusual way of breaking those constraints. Or maybe I just liked learning that the Berlin underground has lots of weird aspects such as lost stations, just like the London Underground

Tea has been lamb tagine and rice, being my homemade one out of the freezer. I can’t say it tastes much different to the Taste The Difference one so I must have done something right

This was accompanied by the rest of the aircraft carrier thing, in which they gave a big buildup to how perilous it was going to be heading into the Red Sea past the Houthis. And then the Navy decided it was, in fact, too perilous to have a camera crew getting in the way, and put them ashore in Oman

Took loony lady 3 to Sainsburies morning. Just about to drive off when a bloke waved and said she's left her stick. Then, when we had set off, she said she must have dropped her gloves at the ATM so had to drive all the way back only to dicover they were in her bag. The umpteenth time I've had to drive back because she's lost something. Maybe find her mind next time.

Just ordered a new shed - the guy building the base says it’s 6x3.

A wise decision to get a base done professionally. I did my own bases and my sheds are going all wonky.

I’ve been mucking around fixing the import of post edit history. In order to be sure what was going on, I had to get up a copy of vB5 running in a Docker container and configure it as a virtual host in Apache but using an older version of PHP than the new software, then work out how to get nginx to proxy it correctly, all of which was a bit of a pain but probably a worthwhile learning experience

Well, it’s a good job I did that as it revealed a bug in the post import step which would have resulted in every post since the vB5 migration not being imported!

Some might say that would be no great loss, but I like to be thorough

It was only a minor thing to fix so now Yet Another Import is running. It also means the problem with a field lacking an index that I came across recently ceases to be a problem. And if anything, the import seems to be running a bit faster despite involving an extra join in the query that gets the posts

Cloudy but bright. Damp from overnight/early morning rain. Currently 11 degrees with a high if 16 expected. Should brighten up this afternoon. Barometer down to 1011 mBar.

Yesterday ended up being rather sunny but it was very chilly in my flat with the doors open while the boiler was being replaced. I had to figure out how to change the language on the "smart thermostat" from Polish in order to set it up.

HWMBO and I are off to visit Mum today.

It’s a grey morning, though there were some gaps letting more sun in when I arose. It seems to be quite breezy, hence the current 11°C “feels like” 4°, and we’ll presumably also be shortchanged on the expected high of 15°. The barometers are down to 995/1003, presumably heralding the arrival of that storm

I slept very well in my newly-made bed except for having apparently lain at some unsuitable angle, leading to my right shoulder complaining a bit this morning

Lunch: brunch. Entertainment: the final ep of the radio astronomy thing wherein the demise of the Arecibo dish is mentioned but the continued existence and use of Jodrell Bank wasn't.
