There were a couple of heavy showers yesterday afternoon followed by light rain yesterday evening.

I might put my head outside to see if the farmers' market has returned now that the roadworks have finished. The council have done a nice job of improving the pavements and other bits around here over the past couple of months.

Tonight’s major motion picture premiere was The Long Walk (2025). I assumed, given its premise, that this would be post-apocalyptic mayhem, along the lines of the running man stuff, but it isn’t. It’s set in that kind of world, but it’s really about people and their relationships, in that world and in this. Well worth watching

And tonight’s rewatch was Ender's Game (2013) which I first watched back in 2019 and wasn’t very impressed by. But we live and learn, and I’ve realised that there were a number of things I watched back then and wasn’t that keen on for reasons that were more to do with me; I enjoyed it this time

Finally, another episode of For All Mankind. Still good, and I’m enjoying it, but I’m also wondering if I should go back to S2 of Silo. Or I suppose I could watch several things at once, like we used to do in the old days

The sun was covered up again for another session of heavy rain, and then it cleared up for a second time. No guarantees then

It went very dark, and then a torrential downpour started along with some thunder. But that only lasted about ten minutes before the rain stopped, though distant rumblings continued for another hour or more. And just now, also over the space of about ten minutes, it’s cleared up and is sunny!

In technology news, I finally managed to get my AirPods Max paired with the telly. I’d done this before a few years ago, but I’d had to do a reset on the telly since then and I couldn’t get it to even see them, never mind pair with them. I finally discovered that an older Samsung TV (this one’s 4K UHD but about ten years old) can’t pair with, or even detect, Bluetooth devices if it's already connected (not merely paired) to one. And since the last time, I’ve gone from connecting the soundbar via HDMI to using Bluetooth, due to a shortage of HDMI ports. So when I tried, it was connected to the soundbar, and of course it doesn’t give you any indication that it won’t work - it just goes through the pantomime of acting like it’s searching for a minute, then shrugs and says “No, nowt there!”

Once I knew that, I disconnected from the soundbar - but it kept automatically connecting again, so I had to turn that off. And then I was finally able to get it to connect to the headphones, then reconnect the soundbar and have them both paired

The main reason for this is to avoid disturbing the neighbours when watching stuff at night on TV or Blu-ray/DVD that deserves to be loud. I do most of my viewing via the Apple TV, which the AirPods naturally just connect to without any effort

I went to bed about 9pm yesterday and slept very well. Long lie in this morning. Now doing a couple of hours' billing time for gig1 (I had an email to respond to!) before submitting my invoice for the month.

Meanwhile on the 3rd of April 2020, between 11:13 and 11:26, barrydidit, Brillo, LondonManc, NF, vetran, and I popped.

Due to the lack of Freesat signal, Jack Hargreaves Old Country came through on Freeview: rabbiting using nets & ferrets: two dead rabbits, how rabbits keep brambles down by eating the soft ends of the briars and thusly myxomatosis increased the amount of ground covered by brambles, what to look for in the country: old disused village breweries. Also: how to make a rabbiting net. Goodness me, that's a skill & no mistake.

Walk (abbreviated, 3 miles) walked in the wan sunshine then pouring rain, during which I sheltered under a tree until it stopped.

Lunch: brunch. Entertainment: The food programme.

Dashcam bollox: gunfire in this one: car jacker. Took the plod a fair amount of time to bring him to a halt despite many rounds of ?9x19? proving the effectiveness of same.

Another deluge: more rivers running down the gutters in the road. I cleared some of the detritus off the drain grid up the road on my walk.

Now waiting for the water level to rise at the bottom of next door's garden.

In amongst the post was a Notice of Intended Prosecution from the Police. I was snapped crossing the lights 1.1s after they had changed to red.

Dammit. My first offence in 30 years of driving.
