Off to Sussex by the Sea where the temperature is about the same and the general weather forecast is too.

My aunt and uncle have deigned to visit Mum, for the first time in 2 years since Dad died, and arranged dinner this evening in a local pub. They wanted to take Mum out this afternoon, "something touristy" they said. What the hell does that mean? So I have to get there before they do, to make sure she's up and dressed.

Staying over as dinner won't finish till late.

Just askin' like ), whereas I had beans on toast for lunch and had finally remembered "Anachronism", this being a word that tortured me for 3 weeks when I couldn't bring it to mindldgit.

The Bad Skin Clinic: lady with Turner syndrome having moles removed. Chap with a lipoma on his forehead botched by some Turkish quack duly fixed. Woman with some misdiagnosis that proved to be eczema: duly fixed. Chap with a birth mark: snipped off & nuked with a CO2 laser: nice result.

Tonight's major motion picture premiere was Underwater (2020) in which a deep ocean mining operation comes under attack from strange creatures. It's pretty good as these things go

Remaining underwater but with creatures no stranger than Cold War opponents, next up was a rewatch of The Hunt for Red October (1990). This has been upscaled to 4K since I last watched it and as part of that process, they seem to have removed the name of the political officer from the subtitles for the Russian-language bits, though it's still audible on the soundtrack. Rather a futile process, given that his name is said later when the Russians' dialogue all happens in English. For the record, the subtitle reading something like "The Political Officer is waiting in your cabin" originally read "Political Officer Putin is waiting in your cabin", for that happens to be the name of the Political Officer, who - spoiler alert - comes to a rather unfortunate end

And although I may have finished The Wire (again) last week, that doesn't mean the policing of Baltimore is no longer under televisual scrutiny. So I watched E1 (there'll only be one S as it's a true story, or at least based thereon) of We Own This City, a dramatisation of the downfall of the Gun Trace Task Force of the Baltimore PD. Very good, with quite a few familiar faces from The Wire showing up, albeit in roles reflecting how much older they and we are nowadays

If it's what I think you're referring to, they're just called felt pads - at least, that's what's on the the packet of ones I picked up from Robert Dyas a while back. Get a pack of four and replace them all as you're unlikely to get one that is exactly the same thickness.

The ones on there are plastic rather than felt, but felt ones will probably be better for the laminated wood floor in the bedroom. I found a pack of fifty on Amazon for a few quid, so that should do

So far this afternoon, I've moved six boxes over to the storage unit, and brought back a small table with drawer below. My parents had one of these each at the sides of their usual seats in their living room, and one of them will be just right as a bedside table here, replacing the rickety thing I got from Homebase many years ago

Also, an email from the Neighbourhood Watch lady back by the old place, who I still hadn't notified of my move. It appears the new landlord has let out the old stable, of frosty roof fame, for some kind of business activity. This is creating a nuisance, as they work late at night and cause what are described as "mini explosions". She's in the throes of trying to get the authorities to take action. So I've sent her the name and address of the new landlord and pointed out that there's very little chance he's ever applied for planning permission for light industrial use of the property, which would also be very unlikely to be granted

Big Sainsbury's has been shopped at, largely successfully on the basis that I haven't yet remembered anything I meant to get but didn't except plain crisps

Lunch came from the food-that-once-knew-warmth counter: a couple of garlic & herb chicken thighs, along with the last bag of plain crisps remaining in the flat

The fog had cleared by the time I went out and it's starting to look as if it will soon brighten up out there, albeit still rather cloudy at the moment

Foggy start to the day. Overcast but feels quite bright. Currently 12 degrees with a high of 15 expected. No rain forecast until late evening / early hours of tomorrow morning. Barometer up to 1013 mBar.

A mere 3.5 hours of work to be done today to take me up to the 2 days I was due to work this week. Next week I'm back up to a 40h week .

Brunch was scrambled eggs on crumpets that I found in the freezer as I've still not bought any bread.
