I was also randomly selected for a rescan at the self-scan checkout. And this wasn’t the usual one where they do eight or ten things picked at random out of your bags: this was the Entire Shop Rescan! So I had to go over to the counter where they keep the security-tag-removers and such and she went through every bag. But it was the nice lady who’s been there for years, long before Covid even, and she was very careful not to mix up things from different bags and mess up my System

Think yourself lucky you weren't like that poor sod the other day mistakenly ordered to leave because the face recog s/w had a false positive and/or the security morons got the wrong chap. .

Lunch was a couple of spicy chicken thighs out of the freezer

And then much of the afternoon was devoted to the new forum stuff. They have an importer for vB5, but this is vB5.4 IIRC and the vBulletin people kept changing things between point versions. So they gave up trying to make the importer keep up and it only works up to vB5.1, I think.

So I’ve been through the source code for the import process, checking everything I can think of, which involved a lot of looking at the vB database and then the equivalent thing in the new database. Most of it works OK, but there are a few things I need to patch. And there’s important stuff like Thanks and Likes, which I need to dig into more because they’re handled by a third-party plugin here, but the new software has a builtin system, so I need to make sure all that stuff gets copied across

But it’s all useful stuff to learn. I’ve been able to get a test framework together that lets me make sure individual bits are working OK, and some other stuff that lets me run bits of the new forum code in isolation to make sure I understand how things work

HWMBO is off home today. He wants to watch NFL things on his huge TV rather than my piddly one and, as it takes place in the wee hours, I'm grateful for the lack of sleep disturbance. He'll be back in just under a week as it's my birthday (a big one!) next Sunday.

Gig3 confirmed start date on Wednesday. Just getting the contract reviewed before I sign my life away.

Rainy grey day again. The wind apparently is still quite windy too, so our 5°C “feels like” -2°; we should be getting 8°, but not until after dark - around nine or ten tonight, in fact, which is also when the rain will go away. The barometers are steady at 973/981mB

I see I neglected to sign off again last night so, for the record, I decided that after Stalingrad and Berlin, something lighter in tone would make a nice change. Hence the new book is The Jane Austen Project by Kathleen A. Flynn, in which a couple of time travellers return to the early nineteenth century on a mission to snaffle the manuscript of a novel that Ms. Austen destroyed. I do wonder if it will turn out that their real mission is something more, but it’s entertaining enough as it is seeing people of modern sensibilities trying to blend in with Regency society

I have to head off to do the shopping soon, rain or no rain. I thought it might be Viz week, but the festive break has thrown the timing out and it actually came out last week. So to Big Sainsbury’s I must go!

Meanwhile on the 15th of March 2020, scruff, BR14, and Brillo popped in, NF's brother's trip abroad had been cancelled, and LM was doubtful about her imminent trip abroad, whereas I had the last of the rice pud for tea.

Woken at 05:something or other by the sound of something sliding somewhere. Got up & had a look around but didn't find anything, but sleep did not return despite the reading of the book.

Eventually got up at 08:05 after the news irritated me enough to stir my bones again.

It has, of course, rained sufficiently to put me off the idea of going for a walk.

Walk (abbreviated, towpath) walked in the grey gloom, wan sunshine, rain with added rainbow.

Lunch: brunch. Entertainment: the Constable thing. Noon o'clock news. Antisocial: who the feck wants to remember 2016 FFS <click>.

Another week done!

As soon as I finished, I was in the kitchen, where I blended lamb mince with finely-chopped green and red chillies and a load of spices and rolled them into sausage shapes. These are back in the fridge now to give the flavours a chance to mingle, and will be skewered and grilled later for tea

I remembered to stick the mattress topper and pillow protectors in the wash. I split the load for drying, so the latter are now done and the former will be done in forty minutes or so
