Blue sky and high level wisps. A gentle breeze is wafting through my office window. Currently 22 degrees ('feels like' 24) with a high of 27 expected. Barometer steady at 1019 mBar.

Just about got myself out of bed in time to attend a 9am meeting this morning! It's one where I just listen in rather than have to contribute, fortunately. Another meeting coming up and that's the sum total of my billing day.

A recruitment consultant approached me on Friday when I was flying back from Glasgow (BA wifi was working well for a change!) and we agreed to have a chat today. I expected to hear no more but I still sent them a note this morning to see what time they wanted to talk. To my surprise, they called me back straight away. A bit awkward as I was in the aforementioned meeting but I'll call them back in an hour and see if anything comes of it.

Sunny start with wispy stuff, but there’s thicker cloud moving in from the south and west. It’s 16°C and expected to hit 24° today, then become increasingly unpleasant through the week before starting to cool down a little from Friday. The barometers are up a bit at 1006/1014mB

There was some good wildlife stuff on earlier

Tonight, I started reading The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury. I tried reading this a while ago, but I wasn’t in the mood for it and bailed after about twenty pages. But a few days ago was the date of the events described in There Will Come Soft Rains, the penultimate chapter (or story - it was originally separate short stories, brought together and rewritten as necessary to make it cohesive), so people were posting about that and having read it, I figured it was time to start again. I’m nearly halfway through now

Tonight is unpleasantly warm. But as well as being Monday, tomorrow will be the coolest day of the week, with 34°C predicted for Thursday!

There were lots of special drivers out today. However I made it to Sussex and back without incident.

I was very disappointed that the car wash at the BP garage close to Mum was partially dismantled. I assume someone has vandalised it. I'll have to plan a different car wash location on next week's visit.

Taking a couple of trackers to attach to things that Mum "loses". There is a risk she removes the trackers and bins them.

Walk (abbreviated, 3 miles) walked in the unbearable heat of the morning. I thought we were over that & here it is again again.

Lunch: brunch: very carefully made & allowed to cool to body temperature due to the sensitivity of said broken tooth.

Entertainment: the dashcam nonsense. There's definitely a lot of nutters out there. Like the biker who rearended a car driving down the freeway & ended up sat on the roof thereof.

Tea: baked beans & baked spuds allowed to cool before consumption. Nice enough.

Entertainment: bit of Brain of Britain. 17 o'clock news.

Costa Rica stone spheres. Yucatan Peninsula: grave of someone who'd been an ambassador back in the day. Stairway with tiles telling his story.

Last hour of "Once upon a time in the West (1969)" with Henry Fonda and Charles Bronson, Jack Elam, Woody Strode, Jason Robards. Those dusters were ever so fashionable back in the day. .

Tonight, I finished reading Just a Shot Away in which the Hells Angel who killed Meredith Hunter at Altamont was tried and found not guilty, presumably because he was white and his victim was black. Meanwhile, the film Gimme Shelter was completed and released. And so the Sixties came to an end

I see it’s going to be unpleasantly hot again this week. It’s only just got back to normal in here!

Entertainment: some lunatic suggesting that 6 year olds should get the vote.

I can't remember who, as it was a while ago, but I remember watching someone argue for something like "children should be allowed to vote". Their logic was that such rules introduce arbitrary reasons for exclusion.

You have to ask what is the purpose of an age cut off. The initial reaction is that a child of 6 doesn't understand what they're voting for. Which is what you can also say about a lot of adults. So then it becomes an argument about intellect and/or educational attainment.

If it's about being a tax payer, then you could argue that everyone in receipt of benefits shouldn't be allowed to vote. Also, a 6 year old child actor, piano virtuoso, etc. could be earning millions, and therefore paying taxes, so surely they should be allowed to vote too.

It actually becomes a very interesting debate about why we find reasons to exclude groups and what a slippery slope it becomes. Not just in voting.
