Didn't read all the threads. Did anyone mention Wadi Bashing out in the desert? Great fun for all I think. They often end at a camp where there is a bite to eat and some entertainment/stalls as well.

Oh I remember. Very nice - get there early and eat at a restaurant but it gets very crowded for the shows.Originally posted by cailin maith View PostNo - you can't walk about in the fountain - they are right outside the Mall and the Burj Khalifa they put on music and lights and stuff with them - hang on - I'll find a link....

I think I was thinking of a plaza in the vicinity with rows of small fountains which you can run around in/through.
I didn't partake, the point is a piss-up is a pretty silly idea in the UAE.Originally posted by SupremeSpod View PostHow "spiritual".
Are you sure "Marrakech" 40 years ago isn't more your scene?

you can do a day trip to the Burj, they sell visitor tickets.
well worth it for the view and the inside artificial geyser.
Plus the fish tank restaurant.
whoever designed the sky bar was seriously sixties obsessed.
If you know someone that is staying there you can visit as guests.

We ate here one night, quite fun and nice food and I think it was unlimited booze although it's not that cheap: Grand Seafood Buffet
Getting to Atlantis using the Palm Metro is easy and cheapish, worth it IMO.

Wild Wadi is good for kids, lots of water rides etc.
The fountains at the Dubai Mall are also good, or is it Mall of the Emirates... one or the other.
The Aquarium is also worth a look.
I always think Atlantis is too far out but maybe now they have the metro thingy it isn't so bad? Not sure.
You'll have a blast anyway, I'm sure
If you are there for a Thursday night, I can reccommend Fibbers for a fab night out.... good entertainment and food and drink. It's also one of the only (if not THE only) pubs in Dubai that isn't attached to a hotel.

I also hear tales of bandits in Sharjah for people who look to be booze-carrying, and demand the booze/money/etc knowing the victims don't want to get the police involved when they were themselves engaged in smuggling.Originally posted by wurzel View PostYep - when I worked out there if you didn't have a permit to buy booze from shops you would go to up to Ajman where they had a "hole in the wall" off licence. This meant driving back with a boot full of booze through Sharjah which is as draconian as Saudi Arabia in that respect.
Fortunately I had the permit. Probably don't need one now these days though....

However a few things to watch:- Some of the areas you might drive through are totally dry, booze-wise. Do not mess about with Emirate law!

SNAP...
I will be going as well next week....
Its obviously the chill out place for contractors after the 1st quarter of 2013 grafting!
Anyways some of the activities I have in mind are:
1) Burj Khalifa..trip to the top
2) Dolphin experience at the Palm
3) Aquaventure park
4) Mall trips (one of them has kidzania - supposed to be awesome for kids)
