I believe that propagation of "hygiene" jokes about BOBs is missing the point and diverts attention from the real issues with bobbing. Most of them are based in India anyway, but does it make the whole offshoring experience any better?

I shared an apartment with an Indian chap. I couldn't fault his technical ability. However, he had no idea how to clean anything, never mind the bathroom and toilet. For him, that was something his wife/mother/daughter would do. Thankfully, she came to stay with him after a few weeks, so me and the other flatmate didn't have to do any cleaning at all after that...

Which is part of my point about making sweeping generalisations. When bankers are referred to as crooks and Bobs are referred to as having bad hygiene related habits they are the subject of jokes. It seems fair game to make these comments about bankers but no about "bobs". why? they are after all both groups.

Bobs are self selecting and not (IMHO) restricted to one nationality.

I always took the name Bob to have come from "Microsoft Bob" an avatar that smiles incessantly always pretends to help, doesn't understand what you are after and is ultimately useless for anything complex. It describes the majority of onshored talent

The fact the vast majority of the onshored talent is Indian is probably why Bob is seen as racist. So its a symptom not a cause.

Yep I hear you. On the personal note, I once shared flat with Chinese Asian who within a few weeks completely trashed my knives and pans . I was baffled when she explained that she did it because she thought that "These belonged to the house".

My point is against the poster who claimed that the jokes and comments about bobs and aussies smelling were tantamount to racism. I am arguing that "bobs" and "aussies" are groups defined by their nationalities. bankers,catholics and chelsea supporters are defined in groups also and that such groups should be fair game for light hearted humour and sweeping tongue in cheek generalisations such as those thrown about on CUK.

I believe this is only if there is a woman living in the house (or so a German friend told me).

As I said, I believe those same Bob people would have immaculate houses and bathrooms shining and clean in their own houses, but its the culture of not caring when using a public amenity, its a learning process that many learn after being in the UK - same for throwing rubbish out in the street etc, all these bad habits have been polished for a very long time in civilized countries, kids trained from very young, but in some other cultures the rich is very rich and have people/servants cleaning after them and sweeping the public areas constantly, hence no one cares enough.

I saw this program the other day comparing a rich country (which is very thoughtless when it comes to public amenities usage/cleanliness) and Japan, the program showed that the Japanese are an amazing example of their thoughtfulness and cleanliness when using public amenities (toilets/parks/beaches/ streets etc).

now when I think about it, 90% of onshore bobs are male. If we experience problems in the lady's I cannot even imagine how bad gents must be.

But at that site the cleaners did the cleaning only twice a day (which I think is fair) so you can imagine the bathrooms (am talking female loos) were in such an awful state starting from 11 am onwards... one day me and another lady on the project (Australian) got so fed up with it, we printed notices saying (There Toilet Brushes Provided, Use Them !!!) And others saying please be considerate etc etc we stuck them everywhere in the bathrooms.. it worked, the bathrooms were decent for another couple of months when the bad habits to come back or new Bobs arrived...
