I've got one of those little media player things, I picked it up before getting a tv that could do it all through DLNA. It's quite a neat little box and can actually power portable hard drives so I used to bring it into work and we could watch the odd film at lunch time.

I think you can pick them up in Maplin for £20 - £30 now.

USB one end, HDMI the other, plays all popular audio and video formats (E.g. MP3, MP4). SD slot to plug in cheap memory to store the files. Battery operated would be a big bonus. Remote control for play back.

Plug into PC and copy files to memory card, then unplug and plug into HDMI of TV. Select video or audio using remote and watch.

Cheap.

Forget it. There are some on the market but USB is too limited, it will never work well. Its like trying to connect am eight lane motorway with a single track country lane.

It takes a usb cable and has an SD card slot, it outputs to HDMI. You might want to check that it supports all the formats you want though.

Oh, it's tiny and the remote is not brilliant, but sod it, you can buy them for £14, so you can't expect too much.
