Seven on our bed as well, four normal ones, three big fluffy ones for show - plus two throws over the end of the bed. I don't have a clue why as they always end up on the floor(!), you'd need to ask the missus.

I use 3 pillows, top one being a memory foam one, which my wife bought but hated, I love it.

Broad shouldered folks need something to support their head properly.

On the occasions the wife and I go away on motorcycling weekends and stay in some outward bound type centre, I fold the only pillow in half to at least get some support.
