Not to blow me own trumpet or anything but when I were a techie, like, all my new starters always had their brand new (never old) kit configured and ready on their first day.Originally posted by MarillionFan View PostJust landed at new clientco. I worked at the head office and new starters would often end up spending time at other business units' offices and eventually would become part of that business unit at which point their IT would be migrated - this company had different IT setups for each business unit!
On a couple of occasions, when I would ask the employee if I could make the arrangements to migrate them across to their new BU's network, they would refuse (in a nice way) as they preferred the IT support that I gave them because it was more efficient.

I had that once. After a quick hello with the director it was off to get my photo taken, badge issued and create the relevant accounts.Originally posted by dang65 View PostShocking. I look forward to at least a week sitting around at the start of a new contract, completely unable to do any work or log in to any systems and having to be escorted everywhere. It's all part of the deal.
It had never happened so fast before, nor since, and it turned out to be a brilliant contract with lots to add to my CV.

I'd be worried. They are probably going to expect you to do some work.
