Going to do mine early this year. Got 6k back last month for year before last but am owed over 10k for last year. So going to do it early as that will trigger off an investigation!!!

I usually have to wait a month or two to receive other tax related earnings forms (such as statement showing dividends receive on shares etc), so I complete mine around the end of May.
I never had to do these until I went Ltd. I assume all Ltd co directors have to complete one every year.
I tend to wait until January and then rush it in with the other 100,000's of late finishers... leaves less time for HMRC to take a good look at it!

I was going to call them, but the next day I received another letter which stated that they had "reviewed my situation and decided that I should now complete SA".

Some people they think are worth investigating, some people they randomly investigate and some people they never bother with.

He was quite nice about it really, even though I kept him standing on the doorstep for our entire conversation out of a vague fear that he might impound the cat or something. I ended up devoting quite a lot of time to four years' worth of forms, even though I'd only been operating a company for the first two of those years
End result: I didn't owe a penny in outstanding tax, but it cost me a few hundred quid in penalties. That's a mistake I won't make again

As a director I knew I should have been filling them in so I handed myself in to the tax feds.

Self Assessment form.
Sheesh. Last time I had one of those I got a full audit on 3 years worth of accounts, all personal bank stuff & a full cavity search without gloves!
Never mess with the Self Assessment people. Bastards the lot of 'em!
