Good to see on Bob's blog that Dave and Bob are good mates. Most excellent indeed for the UK economy, I think.

Your right, more pubs are closing than are opening, however off license/ supermarket trade has increased and people are being a bit more choosy about what they drink. I believe generally its a bit of a constant market and the only thing that could possibly destroy it, i.e. stop people drinking, would be some pseudo-science claiming it causes cancer or such like. I'm not ruling this out.Originally posted by MrMark View Postwhere exactly can you sell beer from a micro-brewery? Aren't there something like 50 pubs closing every week? Would Wetherspoons be the only option?
It would be great to get into wetherspoons. I currently have promises from a few city centre pubs of initial orders for bottles.
It may not be the greatest business and I may not make millions doing it, but its good honest graft and should after a period make enough to have a modest living. It certainly doesn't pay as well as contracting, but I am struggling to get even interviews at present so had to do something about it.

These guys here run a small brewery - nice ales, in a few pubs, farmer's markets etc. Pick my stuff up from there quite frequently. The owner, whom I got chatting too, was formerly in IT as well, so it can be done if the desire is there.Last edited by hyperD; 10 February 2010, 14:15.

I'll look out for that one - make sure it's available down Surrey way.
I still have to do a fair bit, such as consumer testing, recipe development (although I have a couple of good ones ready), marketing, website and whatnot before I even register as a brewery, and that's a pain in the bum as it is. I can't sell any before I have a duty account with HMRC - and you pay duty up front, before it is sold.
When set up I may do a few special one off's for you lot- shawadiwadi IPA, SKA Russian Imperial Stout/ Majestic Russian Imperial Stout....
Will get set up first though. It's at that stage where if a contract comes up I may have to take it, but don't really want to. So, if one comes up I hope it's only a 3/6 monther.
