    No, I'd say that you had worked as a contractor all your working life. That's not what "career" means. Unless you just careered through life without looking!

    And most contractors do not recognise "Career" as an objective, it's one of the thing you give up when you step out of permiedom. Hence the slight disconnect when trying to answer your original question. So, for one example, a progrrammer may get more and more complex and senior roles in development, but stepping across into pure management is not the same obvious progression as it is in Permieworld; nobody takes on a contractor manager who hasn't already been one
