I got a nice official email from Companies House saying they accepted my proof of address and removed my address from the three companies registered with it.
But did they? The filing documents show no change of address so I suppose they left the documents up but removed my address from the underlying databases.
Pretty poor, though. Anyone checking the Companies House website still sees my address.
Through the letter slot has arrived a forth company with my address. Cookie cutter template, same as the other three.
Companies House really does nothing to prevent this.
I've written a bash script to search the website every day..

I just checked my road and it would seem that there is no longer any company with their registered office at my address (or upstairs) but that doesn't mean it's not still recorded somewhere as a correspondence address.
I guess it's too difficult for CoHo to consider that there ought to be additional checks if the registered office or correspondence addresses do not match one or more of the directors' home addresses. It wouldn't be hard to provide confirmation of a registered office service or accountant.

The new ID verification thing has nothing to do with the address you register a company to. All that means is that the person was able to take a selfie that matched their passport photo.

Ahhrg.. Now three companies in total using my residential address.
All set up at the same time with exactly the same people and structure.
On to Companies House again, then Hector and the Filth.
Now that I read it back, that could be my next band's name..

Yes, it's a brand new company and the Companies House entry indicates that they have done an ID check on him.
Great job!
Also yes, I have accounts with all the credit reporting agencies you mentioned.
I think every contractor that gets vetted or applies for a mortgage needs to.
Still unsettling though. I would think the checks would have gotten more rigorous.
I was considering dobbing him into Hector as well, but being new he might not be on their systems yet.

I thought this was the type of thing that the ECCT (Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency) Act was supposed to prevent.Originally posted by Dorkeaux View PostI see on Companies House that some Latvian dude has just registered a company with my address associated to it.
If this is a brand new company, I assume that "the Latvian dude" has done ID verification. That should make it easier for the authorities to get hold of him, i.e. they'll have his real address on file somewhere.
In your case, I'd recommend signing up with the credit report agencies (ClearScore, CreditKarma, and Experian) if you haven't already. You can get free reports from all of them, and that will tell you whether this has any impact on you.

I just returned everything to sender. Still get the occasional bit of post but it was actually all registered to the flat upstairs, not mine, so I'm less invested.

Resurecting this thread. Zommmbeeee!...
I have started to receive post from Companies House at my residential address.
It's not for my company!
I see on Companies House that some Latvian dude has just registered a company with my address associated to it.
I've reported it, but was wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them.
If so, what transpired? I don't imagine it's anything positive.
I remember LadyMuck reported something similar..

No surprises here on fines.
I hope no one's address was a return address for a East Asian company registered at their house and other things this organisation can't deal with...
