Because contractors has been to more places than perm employees and it is likely that they have seen what is working and not working.

Having worked with both.

Azure is a shoe-in if it is a smaller Microsoft house, everything works together, it will win eventually.

AWS is a great spare basket to make sure your eggs are spread out.

Not really tried Google yet!

Don't forget that Azure is only one of several big cloud vendors. By market share AWS is still the biggest but Azure is gradually catching up.

You're not going to get 10 years experience without actually getting 10 years experience. Put the bloody work in and serve your time!

If you get an interview, you will be against candidates who have experience in the role and proven delivery history.

And I say "if" because every job gets lots of applicants, a lot of whom are not architects either so you may well not even get asked in.

Plus architecture is as much about business solutions as it is about technical stuff. Agents won't want anyone who doesn't fit the job description and employers have enough choice not to take a punt.

Not saying you can't do it but your best route is to find a job where you can learn the new role. If your current role doesn't take you that way, then you have a challenge.

Would actual experience be through my current job? At this point, I do not mind perm or contract. Just need to grasp out of my current .NET role. I don't hate it. But I have been in it for quite some time. Nobody to blame, just myself on taking it all too easy with regards to my career. i want to make it work for better in coming few years. Please advise.

exams mean nothing - you will need actual experience as an architect to get work as an architect.

edit - and equally my linkedin feed is full of experienced architects looking for their next contract so it’s little different there

Cloud solution architect

Hi,
I am .NET dev in a permanent employment, Looking to improve my skills in cloud.

I find that there are far too many .net dev in market, looking at number of candidates applying for roles (be it contract or permanent). I am thinking to move / work towards cloud architect role through doing azure certifications for a start. I might change jobs to allow me to work on cloud based projects.

Basically, I want to increase my marketability in my job search.

I am asking you all contractors to share your experience regarding my view please.
