There was some reporting in the Torygraph about raising the lifetime allowance being up for discussion. I doubt it would ever be abolished

Hi -Don't know if there is any truth in it but I read somewhere they are thinking of abolishing or increasing that lifetime allowance back to what it was.

Don’t think abolishing is on the cards, at best they’ll increase it to take some people out of being caught by it

So Messrs Sunuk and Stride are supposedly concerned about economic inactivity among the over 50s?

Presumably this is an extension of their concern shown for the freelance community attacked by their policies in recent years.

Not data based, but I expect that most of the economically inactive former freelancers are over 50.

It was Osborne’s tax policy (introduction and then massive reduction in lifetime pension pot size) that made it no brainer to retire early - why work if one gets whacked by crazy pension related tax? Can be fixed in 5 minutes

Once Rishi’s Chunt cuts power subsidies in 2023 a lot more people will have to work more to keep the lights on, plus a new raid on pension pots of the “well off” going to “gently” push them back to work…

The only HMG raid on pension pots (I'll exclude Maxwell and similar) was Brown removing their tax relief on dividends, which has had myriad bad knock on effects, but hey. All the other attacks have been on the contributions to the pot, not the pot itself. So anyone with a sufficient fund won't be affected, while those still in work will be.
