    I have had this conversation a few times with bad managers "but all my staff are rubbish" my normal reply is "what is the common denominator?" or "why do they not perform for YOU?".

    Someone hired them and kept on paying them, decent managers either inspire employees or move them on.

    This is good policy.

    Nothing i dislike more than slacking free loaders (both contractors and perm).

    Because it is normally me who has to pick up that slack, and at the last minute as well.

    To be fair very few of his audience were single parents on minimum wage who were then let go because their restaurant/Pub/hotel etc have been closed since March last year. Or intensive care / care home workers wearing masks for 16 hour days on a pittance.

    We are very lucky, we have been in high paid work at home, probably with savings, not at significant risk from Covid since the start.

    That I agree with.

    The drafting people into the to be moved on group has been going on for years in all the big companies, I worked with refugees from IBM & HP who had been made redundant in their late 50s and frequently they were excellent.

    Best thing the good ones can do is leave and join compassionate smaller consultancies hollowing out the skill in big consultancies until their customers realise there is no expertise to pay for in the large consultancies.

    Working until 10pm was standard in places like Arthurs 30 years ago, I would pop in to fix an issue after some other customer or do an out of hours upgrade and bump into 20 somethings still working away in the smoking room.

    KPMG boss Bill Michael quits after '''stop moaning''' row - BBC News

    The UK chairman of KPMG has resigned following a row over comments he made at a meeting on Monday.

    Bill Michael had told consultants to "stop moaning" about the impact of the pandemic and lockdown on people's lives, and to stop "playing the victim card".

    Announcing his resignation, Mr Michael said his position was "untenable".

    He added that he was "truly sorry that my words have caused hurt amongst my colleagues".

    Mr Michael had temporarily stepped aside after KPMG launched an independent investigation into the comments.

    He said on Friday: "I love the firm and I am truly sorry that my words have caused hurt amongst my colleagues and for the impact the events of this week have had on them.

    "In light of that, I regard my position as untenable and so I have decided to leave the firm."

    “ Concerns over pay and bonuses were among the issues allegedly raised by staff at the meeting. There is understood to be widespread disgruntlement at the firm about the ranking of staff on a “forced distribution curve”, with the best performers given a score of “one” and the worst given a “five”, sources said.

    Apart from the boss of KPMG needing to get a better internet connection, and for some reason thinking that unconscious bias does not exist, I can't see what the fuss is about.
