How can one person be so wrong? People contract for many different reasons as you should well know if you're a contractor and you mix with other contractors. Some for the money, some for the flexibility and some because they are not good enough to get a permie job. Contracting is an option, but certainly not a natural progression. Many many people are happy and very successful as permie.

Nope, no contradiction. As others on here know I'm currently a full time carer for my sick wife so I only work 2 days a week all from home. Even if perm paid more I'd still prefer contracting. I closed my LTD a couple of years ago and now either work via umbrella or FTCs. I have nothing against perms, but my lifestyle is better suited to contracting and the flexibility I get with this way of working.
