    Wasn't St Lucia a British colony? Lots of anti-gay laws are colonial left overs, which haven't been repealed as the British did a good job at "educating" the local population.

    So you're catholic, you don't fancy girls, you feel ashamed of being gay and your family won't approve. You see the church as an opportunity to live a celibate life where people will respect rather than condemn you.

    Not surprising there are a greater than average number of gay priests.

    You sometimes see similar comments about child molesters, that a disproportionate number are gay. As with that article, it's actually about the limited opportunities. Men are not likely to be put in charge of young girls, only boys. Catholic priests in the Vatican do not get the opportunity to get it on with women.
