Yes, going to multiple sources helps, unless your multiple sources all say the same thing, and you ignore sources that disagree with you.

And this is why I like the Beeb - the far right say it is "the most left wing" and the far left say it is a mouthpiece for UKIP/Tories.

To me that means it is actually fairly balanced. If both sides are convinced (or told by their preferred media) that the Beeb is always wrong, then there's nothing the Beeb can do to fix the skewed opinion.

It's neither left or right wing.

Clipped wings would be a better analogy. The breadth and depth of news and analysis is shocking. The basic facts are missing to make a cohesive story.

I was watching this on the news last night - was not overly impressed.

Ok yes some of them earn big salaries - should they have been leaked to the public - possibly they do only survive because everyone has to have a tv licence even if they own a tv but do not watch the beeb.

Anyway so one of the first scenes was some cocky young man who seemed to think asking childish questions in a rude manner is 'cutting edge investigative journalism' - generally he was trying to get Jeremy Vine to admit he is paid too much money and he would do it for less.

Then it got worse - because obviously the beeb is sexist because the top 9 earners are all male - at no point was there any discussion of what hours each of these people work so at no point could any real analysis and comparison be made.

Then obviously the race card was played - why shouldn't my boy Daquan be paid 150k per year he is a soundcloud rapper innit - this part was really cringeworthy.

So in the end this guy just sounded like a bitter little man because other people were more successful than him and earning more than him.

I see now Rupert Murdoch's newspapers, who obviously lobbied Tory MP's to get the salaries published, are now whipping up their readers into a frenzy about the injustice of the BBC, obviously what the government needs to do is sell the BBC to Rupert Murdoch as a franchise so he can pocket the licence fee and employ some impartial presenters recruited from the Daily Mail or Express and feed the viewers with "news" and a diet of cheap game shows with candidates prancing around in the nude.

I think this revamped BBC would fit snugly into a pround new Brexit Britain.

Firstly "Scandinavia" isn't one country it is a group of countries - so which particular country are you talking about?

Secondly loads of foreign people are transparent about their earnings. So you can have an open discussion about salary and they will tell you how much they earn plus their benefits.

When I was permie for a company they tried to get people to keep their salaries under wraps. However they hired 3 Swedish people and soon everyone knew what others earned. A lot of the women were under paid and asked for more or left.

My prior permie company put explicitly in their contract you couldn't discuss salaries. However the law changed so this was illegal. We then deliberately discussed salaries, including some of the middle managers, and it was those with disabilities who were being under paid or women who had children under seven. So some of those with disabilities asked for more money, and when they didn't get it got better paying jobs elsewhere.

I've then been contracting at companies with French, Spanish, German, Filipino, Polish etc permies and they have no problem letting you know what they earn. It's only the British who have a massive problem with it....

Apparently ALL individual's tax returns are freely available in Scandinavia. So you can see what people make out of wages, but also the other aspects of inherited wealth.

Oh man that would be an eye opener in this country. Wages are a smoke screen.

Let's look at inherited wealth, trust funds, BTL portfolio etc and how little tax is paid.

Surely they are only paid what they can negotiate? Same as my job. I'm reasonably well paid for the work I do, but not top of my game. I could press for more. i sell myself on quality, not quantity...

Yes, but in your case nobody is going to be headhunting you, where as top stars are key targets for commercial competitors

Transparency is hardly a bad thing. People get poached from the BBC anyway, the private sector know they're 'underpaid' already.

It's bad thing for taxpayers in this case - there is a good reason why salaries are kept confidential, do you want yours to be published?

It's clear that the intention was to cripple BBC under the guise of transparency, make it easier for stars to leave, BBC lose ratings then easier to dismantle it
