Just been listening to a History Hit podcast about ISIS and Islam.

    Interesting if rather depressing...

    Thank you.

    Austria, general population 8.6 million:
You're right. No terrorist attacks yet.
But their government says they have identified around 300 jihadists in the country, and are expecting an attack:

ISIS THREAT: Austria reveals almost 300 potential terrorists are now in the country | World | News | Express.co.uk

    Switzerland, general population 8.2 million:

Again, you're right that there have been no terrorist attacks yet.
But again their government says that:

"Swiss intelligence say it's inevitable the country will see its first jihadist terror attack as extremism spreads across Europe"

A third example is India, general population 1300 million, which has muslim population of 14.2%.
This country has had many terrorist attacks in recent years, with the link below showing a list of them.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...dents_in_India

Almost all of the attacks in this list were by muslims.

It seems to me that a core part of the "DNA" of Sunni Islam is a propensity for terrorism when the size of a community of those muslims living within a host (non muslim) society is large enough to defend itself, but not large enough to have political control of that host community. Terrorism is a method that emerges from the islamic social dynamic in such a situation, because its effect is to gain (in some circumstances) that political control.

    It's Darwinism really.

Can you think of any other countries?

Oddly its not the percentage of Muslims that is important its the amount of nutters.
Oddly it is the percentage of people who follow a religion whose goal is to turn all of the planet into a single caliphate.

Old link but probably still relevant

Swiss intelligence say it's inevitable the country will see its first jihadist terror attack as extremism spreads across Europe
Defence minister warns it is a matter of when rather than if an attack will happen
Swiss spy agency said the greatest threat was lone-wolf or small group attacks
Switzerland has so far not been targeted directly in an Islamist attack

Swiss Defence Minister Guy Parmelin was speaking today at a conference in Bern where the spy agency released its 2017 situation report.

It comes as Europe tries to come to terms with recent attacks in London and Paris linked to Islamist extremism.

'In Switzerland, the terrorist threat remains at a heightened level,' the Federal Intelligence Service (FIS) said in its annual assessment of risks faced by Switzerland.

'The most likely terrorist threat in Europe and thus also in Switzerland will continue to come from jihad-motivated terrorism,' it said. 'Further attacks must be expected.'

The FIS said the greatest danger was that individuals or small groups inspired by ISIS would carry out attacks in Switzerland or use it as a base to plot other attack
Oddly its not the percentage of Muslims that is important its the amount of nutters.

    So yes, but ultimately no.
And do you think that "Muslims" are a monolithic bloc?
If Jehovahs Witnesses started murdering people, would you blame Catholics and Seventh Day Adventists equally?

    and

"The hard, quantifiable fact is that the “peaceful majority” is the “silent majority,” and it is cowed and extraneous"

So any number of peace-loving muslims might be interviewed by the BBC and say that terrorism is bad etc. And they might mean it.
But whether they mean it or not, they are being crushed by the power of the extremists among them.

Unsure whether its lack of resources or they previously underestimated the dangers.

I mean the latest one was a few amateurs really, a hired van, fake vests and knives, but still deadly.

I think that the authorities need to take concerns more seriously now and don't just assume someone is only of "minor" concern.
It can start that way and move on quite rapidly from there, IMO.
